Chapter 62
Nathan had never imagined that Isabella would be such a spendthrift. In addition to the enormous debt she owed Theo, her extravagant spending on various luxury goods over the years had amounted to billions. Nathan gritted his teeth in disbelief, his mind sharp with frustration. "Does she really think I'll divorce her just because of all this debt?"
Joker, with a calm demeanor, gently coaxed, "Mr. Hill, if you refuse to agree to the divorce, Miss Moore will have no choice but to file for divorce to the court."
Nathan scoffed. "File for divorce?"
With his wealth and influence, Isabella stood no chance against him.
He could drag this on until the day she gave up.
Joker, however, was not deterred. "Mr. Hill, I think you should take a look at the documents Miss Moore has prepared for the divorce first."
Nathan took the documents from Joker and started looking through them. The photocopied photos were damning-images of him with Victoria in intimate poses, and numerous shots of Victoria entering and leaving his bedroom. There were also all the bills detailing how much he had spent on her.
Nathan had always believed he had been careful in his actions over the years, maintaining a prudent distance in his relationship with Victoria, keeping his marriage vows intact. Yet these photos exposed the depth of his affection for her, which was glaringly obvious. Meanwhile, his indifference toward his wife, Isabella, was unmistakable.
Nathan clenched the papers tightly, his blood boiling with rage. "Isabella, I really underestimated you."
Joker threw more fuel on the fire. "Mr. Hill, Miss Moore said that if you continue to delay the divorce, she will make these materials public on her social media. She'll even do a live stream to tell the public how you deceived her into marriage." "Deceived into marriage?" Nathan's expression faltered.
"Is she really thinking that?"
Joker, with a stern face, replied, "Isn't that what it looks like? Anyone who sees these materials would probably come to that conclusion."
A cold sweat broke out on Nathan's palms, and he struggled to maintain his composure. "Tell her to wait for my response."
Joker nodded and left.
Nathan returned home, his mind in a haze. It took him a long while to regain any semblance of clarity.
He gave a bitter, almost self-deprecating smile. He had never imagined that one day, he would be driven into such a corner by Isabella.
Isabella, a woman who seemed so ordinary and without much skill, had become so calculated. She had endured humiliation, returning to the Hill family, just to gather evidence of his affair with Victoria. And he had never suspected a thing. Nathan had always been a man who cared deeply about his reputation. But Isabella had cleverly hidden the weapon capable of stripping him of his feathers. For the first time, he felt a sense of awe toward her.
Yet, a small part of him still clung to hope-perhaps Isabella was still kind enough to forgive him. If he spoke a few sincere words, maybe she would let him off the hook.
For the first time, Nathan made a sincere and heartfelt attempt to call Isabella.
The phone rang, and Isabella answered almost immediately. "Nathan, have you made up your mind about the divorce?"
Divorce. Divorce. Again, it was all about divorce.
Nathan was exhausted. "Bella, let's not get divorced. Let's work things out. I will return to the family and take on the responsibilities of a husband. As for Victoria, I will distance myself from her..." Isabella was silent.
Just as she was about to hang up, she heard Nathan say, "If you really don't like how close I am with your Bella, I can send her abroad and never let her come near you again. How about that?"
Isabella rolled her eyes. "Why didn't you do that earlier? Nathan, your late affection means nothing."
Isabella ended the call.
Nathan was stunned.
After all this, he had compromised so much, and Isabella still insisted on getting a divorce?
Isabella quickly forwarded the audio recording of Nathan pleading for reconciliation to Victoria.
Then, with a malicious grin, she added, "Bella, it turns out that you're not as important to Nathan as you thought. When it comes to his interests, he'll discard you just as easily. What do you think, Bella? Should I reconcile with Nathan?" Victoria was initially confused by the message, but when she listened to the recording of Nathan and Isabella's conversation, her face turned as white as paper.
Nathan was willing to cut ties with her in order to reconcile with Isabella?
She was like a parasitic vine, unable to live without Nathan. Her frail health required expensive treatments, and only Nathan could afford to keep her alive.
Her father's small, struggling company also needed Nathan's financial support to survive.
Victoria trembled as she picked up her phone, finally abandoning her pride to beg Isabella. "Bella, what did you do to Nathan?"
"Nothing much, just sent him the photos of his affair and the evidence of his asset transfers during the marriage. He fears that his deceitful actions will be exposed, so now he's begging me not to divorce," Isabella replied casually. Victoria's face drained of color, her voice faltering as she replied, "Bella, what you're doing will ruin him."
Isabella ignored her.
How laughable. She had planned to destroy him all along, as well as Victoria.
This man and woman had caused the death of her daughter, and now, in this new life, she would take revenge on them.
There was no room for mercy for these two scoundrels.
Victoria, likely overwhelmed by her emotions, had a relapse of her health issues. The next day, she was admitted to the hospital.
Victoria knew how to manipulate men well. She posted a photo from her hospital bed in her social media, writing miserably, "Looks like I'm destined to grow old and die alone."
When Nathan saw his beloved woman looking so frail, he couldn't hold back and called her to comfort her.
Victoria, on the phone, poured out everything that Isabella had done and said to Nathan. In the end, she spoke with apparent selflessness "Nathan, don't worry about me. You and Isabella should live your life. I don't want to drag you down. You've come this far, and it hasn't been easy."
Her magnanimous demeanor only served to make Isabella look small and petty.
In the comparison between the two, Nathan's heart unhesitatingly leaned toward Victoria.
Isabella didn't give Nathan much time to reflect. The next day, she posted a photo of Nathan tending to Victoria in the hospital on her social media. The caption read, "My husband is taking care of his first love in the hospital meticulously. Should I be jealous?" The post immediately caused a stir.
The comment section exploded, with strangers piling on to criticize Nathan.
"My god, this man can't forget his first love. Why did he marry someone else then? Isn't he just wasting the current wife's time?"
"Such a disgusting pair of people."
"Hope all mistresses who break up families get their comeuppance."
"People who betray true love deserve to suffer."
"Wow, no wonder this woman is so sick-karma for ruining someone's marriage." Some even started to fabricate an elaborate love story between Nathan and Victoria:
"Could it be that Victoria had cancer and secretly left for treatment so as not to burden Nathan? Now that Nathan has become successful, he married someone else. But Victoria is back, crying and claiming that their breakup was inevitable. Now Nathan is torn between the old love and new wife?"
The real story, of course, was that Victoria wasn't dying of cancer after all. She had been playing the victim all along Nathan had been deceived, only to later realize that his old tove, Victoria, had poisoned his life. Yet his original wife, Isabella, had finally had enough of his late affections and was ready to fight back.
"You go, girl! We all support you. Dump the scumbag and live your best life!"
Isabella, delighted with the attention, replied, "Thank you for all the support, everyone! Off to work today, and tomorrow I'll share more of my tragic marriage story!"
