Can't Win Me Back (Isabella and Nathan)

Chapter 61

Isabella transferred the responsibility of the divorce proceedings entirely to her law firm, while she shifted her focus to the creation of her new brand. Each day, she spent her time out in the market.

She needed to master the materials here in the Capital, to grasp the textile dyeing techniques, and observe the various street styles of passersby. Then, in the evening, she would sit under a desk lamp, sketching her designs.

One design after another came to life on paper.

Day after day, three months had passed in the blink of an eye.

Isabella had drawn hundreds of designs.

Theo greatly valued her work and adopted nearly all of her designs, investing heavily in mass production.

For the past three months, she had been so busy that she had almost forgotten about the divorce. Meanwhile, Nathan could hardly hold back his impatience.

One day, Nathan attended a gathering with his friends.

Although Isabella didn't attend, she was still the main topic of conversation.

"Nathan, I heard your wife is with that little Theo now. She really must be hurt by your coldness, hasn't she? Looks like she's decided to separate from you for good." Nathan puffed on his cigarette, the smoke blurring his face, making his expression unreadable.

Victoria interjected, "She could never leave Nathan. She's more loyal to him than a dog. But she does like to use these tactics of pretending to play hard to get to catch his attention. The problem is, Nathan just finds it all too tiring. Let her do whatever she wants, as long as she doesn't embarrass Nathan."

Guillermo, who had been silent, suddenly chimed in, "Nathan, I don't understand. You don't even like her-why not just divorce her? Victoria has been waiting for you for so long. You need to be responsible for her, don't you?" Nathan fell silent.

Victoria looked at him, feeling a bitter pang as he remained silent. Despite her moist eyes, she tried to act magnanimous, "My health condition probably won't allow me to have children..."

Her words hung in the air, and everyone fell silent.

Everyone understood. The Hill family was a large, prestigious family, and Nathan was their heir. He could never marry a woman who couldn't bear children.

It was truly an insurmountable problem.

Nathan lit another cigarette and took a deep drag, then gently reassured Victoria, "Whether or not you can have children doesn't matter to me. Having children is a tough thing, and I wouldn't want you to suffer. The reason I haven't divorced Isabella has nothing to do with you."

Another voice, servile and eager to please, chimed in, "Exactly. Nathan loves you so much. Why would he care whether you can have children? Besides, even if Victoria can't bear children, Nathan can just have more with Isabella. Then, after going through surrogacy, Victoria can still become a mother. That way, Nathan will have fulfilled his responsibility to the Hill family."

Victoria's eyes suddenly lit up, and she grabbed Nathan's hand in excitement. "Nathan, if you really like children, why not have one with Isabella?" Nathan was stunned.

His gaze involuntarily shifted to his phone screen. For the past three months, even though Isabella was in the Capital, she had never contacted him. Does she still love him?

Would she still want to have children with him?

Nathan's heart suddenly felt uneasy.

After the gathering, Nathan sent Isabella a text message: "Isabella, let's meet."

Isabella didn't reply until the next day: "Are we meeting to discuss the divorce? If not, I don't see any reason for us to meet."

Nathan was furious when he saw the message and smashed his phone against the wall.

He remembered the old Isabella, the one who would eagerly cling to him like a puppy. Now, she had become so distant and aloof, and he couldn't even get her to agree to meet him. How had their positions reversed so drastically?

Isabella stared at her phone, now silent, her delicate face darkened.

After everything that had happened, Nathan still didn't want to divorce.

But she wasn't willing to waste her youth on him.

Isabella decided to give Nathan a hard push.

She handed over all the divorce-related materials to her lawyer, Joker.

"These are the huge debts I accumulated during the marriage."

"These are the evidence of Nathan's asset transfers during our marriage."

"These are the proof of Nathan's affair with Victoria."

"These are the records of Nathan's emotional abuse toward me during our marriage."

...

"Joker, tell me, with all this evidence, will I be able to divorce him smoothly?"

Joker looked at her steadily. "With this much leverage against him, even an intern lawyer could win this case for you. Let alone me."

Isabella was stunned. "Then I'll wait for your good news."

Nathan had planned to ignore Isabella for a while longer.

But Isabella's lawyer arrived in full force: "Mr. Hill, I am Joker, representing Isabella in her divorce case. I would like to discuss some matters with you."

Nathan had just finished his

morning meeting, and his mood was

already low due to recent setbacks

with Theo's new compang his own. Seeing Joker, his frustration immediately flared.

"I don't have time," he snapped coldly.

Joker remained calm and composed, replying politely, "Mr. Hill, I think you should at least take a look at the divorce agreement that Miss Moore has prepared." Joker handed the divorce agreement to Nathan.

Nathan shoved his hands into his pockets, looking indifferently at the divorce agreement.

"What's there to look at? It's the same old story: emotional breakdown, and now she wants to walk away with nothing. Just another one of her tired tricks." Joker smiled. "This time, it's different. Mr. Hill will definitely find a surprise."

Nathan, curious, opened the agreement.

But what he saw inside made his pupils shrink in shock.

This time, Isabella didn't ask for a clean break. Instead, she was demanding half of his assets.

"Dream on." Nathan scoffed.

Joker, with professional calmness, began explaining to Nathan, "According to the Civil Code, income such as wages, bonuses, and other labor compensation earned during the marriage, as well as any profits from business, investments, or other activities, all constitute marital property."

Nathan replied, "Before I married her, we signed a prenuptial agreement. As for my post-marriage income, I'm basically living paycheck to paycheck." Joker chuckled. "If all men were like Mr. Hill, I imagine most women would rather remain single than marry. The human race would be doomed."

Nathan's face turned a deep shade of red.

He knew very well that his handling of Isabella's finances had been less than honorable. While rich families typically protected their assets, no one did it as stingily as he did.

Joker continued, "Mr. Hill, although

you didn't create any wealth for Miss

Moore during your marriage, you are still responsible for half of the enormous debts she incurred during the marriage."

Joker handed over the bill. Nathan looked at the long list of charges, and his temples started to throb painfully.
