Chapter 78. I Run The City
I RUN THE CITY.
The Rolls Royce Phantom in the convey opened and a middle-aged man stepped out causing the reporters to hurriedly rushed over to take his photograph and interview him.
"Sir, please can you tell us how you feel about becoming one of the major players in the business world," a reporter asked.
"It means nothing to me," Damon said smiling.
"But sir, you have caused a lot of imbalance in the business world by this takeover." Another reporter said.
"Haha. I love how the media works, but the truth of the whole matter is that this takeover means nothing to me. I just want to give the business world a new touch." Damon replied the reporter. "Please last question before the press conference," Alan said.
"Sir, what is your advice for the youths." A female reporter asked smiling.
Damon was so thrilled by the question that he redirected his gaze towards Mr. Cameron and his entourage and asked, "What's your name?"
"My name is Lillian, sir." The reporter answered him.
"The answer to your question is simple. Don't allow all these old fogeys to ruin your dreams and plans." Damon replied sarcastically and said to the reporters, "you are all welcome to join my press conference in the hall." All the reporters were thrown into confusion because most big shots don't like the media people coming close to them.
In the conference hall, the general manager of the hotel said, "you are all welcome to this first press conference granted by our new chairman. With a standing ovation, I will like to welcome to the mic our amicable chairman in the person of Mr. Damon." He said and left the stage.
"I will like to say a big thank you to everyone for your time to be here despite the turmoil and the news of the major takeover since earlier today. I would love to start by saying that I am not witch-hunting any of my business colleagues for power or fame." He said sarcastically knowing fully well that everything he said was lies.
"We will serve you, people, with dignity, and above all our customers always comes first. I chose to hold this press conference here today with the hope of letting everyone know that this hotel is not the only thing I'm taking over." Immediately after Damon said this, everyone was thrown into disarray especially Mr. Cameron and his entourage of loyalists.
"What do you mean by what you said, sir?" A reporter could not wait to get the full details of the major takeover talk of the city.
Damon smiled and continued from where he stopped.
"We from CISTERN have taken over the following businesses,"
# Emerald intercontinental hotel,
# Grand shopping mall,
# Exclusive bathhouse & massage parlor,
#Soundwave brothel & Entertainment palace,
# Lakeland restaurant and finally,
#Eagle eye's network media,
# Lead gates security corporation.
Immediately Damon was done mentioning the businesses he took over, a certain individual was awe-struck not because of the many businesses under his wing but how did his arc enemy pull this stunt. They all erupted with sounds of hands clapping and voices praising him.
Alan who was standing behind Damon couldn't contain his happiness because he knew how all this came to a realization.
"Thank you, everyone," Damon said smiling.
"Let's join hands and make NEW York City an industrial hub in the whole of the country where people will rush down to invest and develop our neighborhood," Damon added to his previous remakes and by the look of things, he's not done yet.
"Lux Corporation is a subsidiary of DaLux, and DaLux is a subsidiary of CISTERN. Now the new name for all my businesses is CISTERN LUX CONGLOMERATES." Damon ended his speech and bowed to the crowd of people in the hall. "Sir, you are virtually into all the business fields in town, hope it won't cause insecurity to the citizens?" A reporter asked frantically.
Damon looked at her and saw her expression telling him that all these old fogeys won't back down allowing you control over everything.
Damon smiled and replied, "I run the city and no one will dare to cause trouble."
Immediately Damon said he run the city, Mr. Cameron instantly jumped from his seat and said, "Hey Damon, don't start blowing your trumpet because you have all this small-scale business."
A reporter suddenly asked Mr. Cameron, "Mr. Cameron, rumors have it that you have been trying to become the henchman in the business world, are you still sure you can unseat Mr. Damon?"
Mr. Cameron was rendered speechless because he knows that he can never win against Damon.
"Let's wait and see who laughs last then." Mr. Cameron replied.
"Everyone working in any of my company will have a ten percent pay rise starting from this moment and that will be all for now thanks," Damon added the last words trying to infuriate Mr. Cameron and the rest because rumor has it that they don't pay their staff on time and they usually take pay cuts.
"Do you hear what the new chairman just said?" One of the security guards asked his colleagues.
Immediately after the press conference, Damon walked to the chairman's office of the emerald intercontinental hotel and sat down facing the window.
"Alan, do you think am wrong trying to unseat all these old fogeys?" Damon asked.
"You are never wrong when it comes to business and politics," Alan replied.
At that moment the general manager of the hotel knocked at the door and came in.
"Sir, all the staff are overjoyed by your decision to increase their pay."
"Money is nothing to me. But what I value the most is competence, loyalty, and above all trust in the system of the organization." Damon said smiling at the general manager.
"Tell all the workers under you that, as long they are not planning on betraying my trust everyone will get paid accordingly but if anyone attempts to betray me I won't show mercy. And tell anyone who's not ready to work with me should scram." Damon said and waved his hand dismissively.
