Chapter 187 – The Alphas’ Porn Star Mate
Rodger
POV
BANG BANG BANG
I started awake, almost falling off the couch as someone knocked furiously on the door.
Without prompting, the door flew open, Jamie standing naked in the doorway. He was a sweaty, panting mess, leaves and twigs all in his hair.
"She was taken," Jamie bellowed, still struggling to catch his breath.
It didn't take me more than a second to fully wake up, pushing off the sofa and sliding on the shoes laid beside me on the floor. I don't even think they were my shoes. Kai's by the feel of them, but my worst fear come to life was too much for me to comprehend anything else. "When?" I demanded, grabbing my keys and pushing past Jamie out the front door.
"Ten minutes."
"Where!?"
Jamie was right on my heels, nakedly hurrying into the passenger door before I put my car into reverse and pulled out of the dirt driveway.
"The main road. Cindy and Chloe were, like, just fucking swallowed," Jamie tripped over his words. "It just ate his fucking car and closed before Alexi could-"
"Wait," I sped down the drive toward the pack's main road that led to the pack house. "Cindy and Chloe? Cindy was taken too?"
Jamie didn't answer right away. I looked at him, expecting an answer, but he just looked worriedly back at me.
"What?! What about Cindy and Chloe!? Did you see who took them?!"
Jamie jumped as I started to yell. "No! Um, no. It.... it was Cindy. Cindy.... Cindy took her."
My mind reeled, not grasping what he was telling me. "Cindy took her where? Who took my daughter, Jamie?!" "Cindy!" Jamie yelled back at me. "Cindy took her!"
No.... That doesn't make sense.
"Was he possessed?"
"We don't know yet," Jamie said through clenched teeth.
I don't know how or when it would have happened. Cindy didn't have a history like Boyd's and he wasn't....
"He was missing," I whispered, remembering Alexi was looking for him this morning. "Was he taken while we were handling your old Alpha?"
"I don't know, Rodger. I know nothing more than what I told you. I was told to get you right when the Alphas started searching for more answers." "Where were they when she was taken?!"
"I don't know!"
With a frustrating groan, I stepped heavily on the accelerator. Yelling at each other isn't going to answer my questions. I needed to get there and see what happened for myself.
Shit. Why the hell did I decide to take a nap? Who was watching my daughter? Why were her mates not with her?
So many questions were running through my mind, but not enough to chase away the barely repressed guilt that had settled since I confessed everything to my daughter last night.
So many wolves were searching the grounds as I drove furiously to the place Jamie spoke of. I knew we were getting close, because the current of warrior wolves was moving in a cingular direction, the number of them increasing by every second.
Then I saw Mick's wolf, the largest black wolf in the pack. He was snarling at a large group of warriors, all of them with their heads bowed but with determined looks on their canine faces.
Their Luna was missing. She was my daughter, but I'm not the only one that will feel the heart-breaking guilt of her kidnapping. She has an entire pack willing to go to war for her.
I will go to war for her. No matter what happened, who is behind this, and what I have to do, I will not fail my daughter this time. I will save my daughter if it is the last thing I do.
I parked in the middle of the road, then threw the door open, hurling myself out of the driver's seat. I didn't wait for Jamie, or even shut my door behind me. I just raced for the snarling Alpha.
"What happened?!" I demanded, not hesitating to approach the giant, enraged beast.
Mick's wolf turned his head towards me and snuffed a heated breath into the chilly air. That was the first time I noticed how cold it was right where we were standing. Not everywhere, but just here. In this spot. Dark magic was used here.
The warriors who Mick was talking to ran off, all in a single direction, following whatever task he had given them. Jamie shifted back to join them too. With them out of the way, that was when I noticed Kai in the cropping of trees nearby, fully in fox form with all nine of his tails flicking in air behind him. His eyes were shining brightly, a golden fog coming from his mouth.
He picked up on the dark magic too. He was searching for its source.
Miles was in human form, naked like he had just shifted back. My demanding question had been aimed at Mick, but Miles was the one walking towards me, a raging look in his sharp eyes.
"Where is my daughter?" I clenched my teeth. My anger and fear were boiling over into something dangerous. I felt the buzzing of my magic under my skin, ready to explode.
"Did you know?!" Miles growled, answering my question with his own.
My eyes tightened, "Know what?"
"That he was a rat?!" Alpha Miles was seething.
"Who are you talking about? Where is Chloe?!"
"HE TOOK HER!" Alpha Miles yelled right in my face, his spit flying at me in his outburst.
I barely noticed, too hung up on trying to figure out what he was talking about. "How?! How did he get her?!" No one is answering how that Mr. Smith could have gotten his hands on my daughter. He couldn't have come onto the pack without the Alphas being alerted first. "No one is making any damn sense!"
"Rodger!" Alexi came jogging over, his face bruised on one side. He looked worse off than anyone, like he had just been in a bad fight.
Jamie mentioned something about Alexi being there when she was taken. I turned my attention towards him.
"What happened?!" I asked for the third time.
Alexi looked guilty for a second, his eyes darting between both Alphas before meeting mine again.
"Cindy took Chloe, Rodger. We're trying to find out where to now."
I shook my head, still not understanding. "Did Cindy become possessed? Is that why you were searching for him?"
Alexi's eyes darted between the Alphas again, both Mick and Miles letting out low snarls.
He then mumbled, "I don't think he was possessed, Rodger. Chloe would have felt it."
"Then how?" I looked back at the Alphas for answers, expecting real answers from someone. I was starting to suspect what they all meant, but it couldn't be right. There was just no way.
Alpha Miles took a deep, raging breath, and then said, "The Alpha said there was a mole in our midst. We just discovered who it is. I'm going to ask you one more time." He let silence stretch between us for a heavy minute, all while my mind raced to come to terms with the horrible reality he was suggesting. "Did. You. Know?"
"Did I know?" Was he seriously suggesting that I could imagine a world in which one of my own, Cindy of all people, could betray me to this extent? "There is no way. Cindy would never-"
"I have been suspecting him for a while," Alexi cut me off. "He knew too much about that room. He has been saying some off the wall things about Chloe recently too." Alexi pressed his lips together, like he was struggling with finishing his train of thought. "I know I don't say much, Rodger, but I watch everything."
I knew what he was saying. He was the most observant person in our group. He was always content sitting back and just observing what was going on, and when anyone needed details recalled, he had the best memory.
"I've watched Cindy change since Chloe came to us. He acted like her friend, but I could see the divide he tried to place between you and her. I thought that was out of loyalty to you, since you wanted to keep your secret, but then when shit started to hit the fan around her...." The silence was telling as Alexi stared at the ground. I knew he was struggling to get this out, and as hard as it was to hear, I started to see the picture he was painting.
"You were more open about how protective you were towards her, and Cindy.... Cindy was always your go-to for everything. He wasn't anymore. Lenny and Kai were. Then you kept obsessing over Chloe like never before. I saw it all, Rodger. Cindy hated the changes, and it's been getting harder and harder for him to hide it. He's even been talking shit to others. Ask some of the others. He calls her a whore and a brat more than her name recently."
I was finding all of that hard to believe. I never heard Cindy refer to Chloe in any such way....
But I have seen a change in him too. Just this morning.....
My eyes opened wide.
Cindy was acting strangely this morning. I was so tired and so emotionally drained that I didn't pay it much attention, but now I remember it vividly. He was off.
"What?" Miles took an imposing step forward. "Your face says you just realized something."
I couldn't deny what I saw this morning, or the mishap with the laptop. Cindy was the one that cleared Chloe's hard drive and all traces of her from the web. Those photos of Chloe in that room.... Could Cindy have been responsible for them?
"Cindy lent me a laptop," I murmured as I got my thoughts together. "When I started finding the right research material, it just stopped working. Then this morning....."
Mick shifted back right in front of me, while Miles and Alexi pressed in.
"What about this morning?" Mick was the one to ask with frenzied anger.
Alexi's brows pulled down, "You said you hadn't seen him."
"I hadn't. He was at the cottage when I got back, but he left right when I showed up and said you were looking for him. I thought he was going to find you."
Alexi crossed his arms over his chest. "He didn't."
There were hours between when I last saw Cindy and when Chloe was taken. We went around in circles as we discussed every possibility of what he could have been doing and where he could have gone. Mick and Miles were still barking out orders to their warriors, but their Beta and Gamma returned from their initial searches and started taking over so we could focus on figuring out where Cindy could have gone.
Then, my sister's car started to come down the chaotic street, halting our discussion. I was half hopeful it would be Cindy coming to his senses and bringing back my daughter. Disappointment made my heart sink when I saw it wasn't them. The warriors parted as my sister honked her horn.
"Hey!" Driana hung her head out the window. "What's with the roadblock?"
Alexi glanced at us, then jogged over to my sisters, quickly relaying what had happened and that Chloe was missing.
"You say Cindy took her?" Driana asked. "Is that the one with the make up?"
Alexi sighed, hiding his junk as Driana glanced at it with an appreciative smirk. "Yeah. Cindy wears the make up."
"Huh," Driana looked at Paulina, then stuck her head out further to yell, "We saw his car drive past the hotel when we were leaving."
"You saw Cindy?" I jogged over to her window as Alexi stepped aside. I felt the Alphas following me. "Did you see where he was heading? What direction? Did you see Chloe?"
"Slow down. No, I didn't see Chloe, but I did see where he went." Driana sighed, then threw her thumb back towards the backseat. "Get in and I'll show you."
Chloe POV
I felt him. The moment my consciousness started coming back to me, I felt his presence nearby. I could feel his eyes on me. They were moving over my body even as I pretended to stay asleep. Cameron.
Even without my wolf I would have known his scent anywhere. It makes me want to hurl. Bile keeps rising in my throat and I keep having to swallow it back down, trying to stay as inconspicuous as possible.
His breathing. When you hate someone, and are forced to be in the same space as them for any amount of time, every breath they take pains you. It constricts your own breathing, tightening your chest.
I used to stay awake for hours just imagining cutting off his heavy, panting breaths with a pillow or my hands.
No one breathed like Cameron. Like he was trying to dominate the very air around him.
I don't know how Cindy got involved with my ex. I just knew I had to stay asleep. I had to hold off the inevitable torture that was to come as long as possible.
"I know you're awake," his rough, heavy voice made the hair all over my body stand on end. Just a couple of words from him and a chilling wave of fear traveled all through me. "Your heart's been racing for a while now." "Shit," I muttered to myself, wishing for Cortina to at least be with me. My hands were bound by something heavy and cold, metal shackles by the feel of them. My only defense was pretending to be asleep, but I guess that failed. Large, warm hands cradled my face. I kept my eyes closed, but involuntarily jerked at his touch.
"You're just as beautiful as the day we met," he whispered roughly, though his hands were gentle on my face. "Maybe more so."
I squeezed my eyes tighter, trying not to give him the satisfaction of meeting my gaze.
"Your skin glows now. You're a lot more tan than before."
Because my mates let me out of the pack house, you asshole.
"And your body," his hand traveled down my throat, resting on top of my tits. His touch felt gross. Like needles prickling my skin. "You always had a nice chest, but they look bigger than I remember."
He squeezed my right breast, and an involuntary growl left my lips as my eyes snapped open. My wrist stung as I yanked against the metal cuffs, but I barely noticed the pain. All I felt was disgust for the man in front of me. His smile was the same as I remembered, even though his face looked more weathered and rough. Like he had aged ten years instead of one.
"And those eyes," he chuckled darkly. "I missed that defiant look I could never take."
"Fuck you," I sneered sharply, then spat in his face.
His smirk disappeared as he let out an angry breath. After wiping my spit from his face, he reared his hand back, ready to hit me. I stared straight into his eyes, refusing to show any fear.
"Uh, uh, uh-h," a smooth voice caused Cameron to stop as he started to swing.
He looked back at the same time I gasped, staring at the man that had just entered the dank room. A man I had only seen on screen before this.
"Mr. Smith," the name left me in a hushed breath.
He smiled softly, almost looking friendly. "Hello, Chloe dear. It's nice to finally meet you face to face."
