Chapter 53
Chapter 53 Holding a Grudge Was Her Specialty
Misunderstanding? What kind of misunderstanding could there be?
Gwen narrowed her eyes as she recalled vividly the humiliation she had endured at Theodore’s hands. There was no way it could be just a simple misunderstanding. “Too bad. I do have a bad temper.”
She had many admirable qualities, but holding a grudge was her specialty.
Recalling Henry’s instructions, Gwen felt a thrill of mischief at the thought of toying with Theodore. She wouldn’t reveal her true identity as she was eager to watch him fumble around cluelessly.
“You’d better keep your distance, got it?”
Theodore, completely oblivious, opened the box. Inside was a shimmering emerald bracelet, clearly worth a fortune. It was easily several times better than the one Sienna had bought out of spite the last time.
“This is the thank–you gift I mentioned the last time. Do you like it?”
Theodore had spent a lot of time picking out this emerald bracelet. He bought it only after consulting several experts in the field. It was a gesture filled with sincerity.
“Take it back. I don’t need it.”
“I really like you, milady,” Theodore confessed his love again.
He exuded an undeniable confidence. His handsome, charming looks could win over anyone, even those who might hold a grudge against him. Yet the person standing before him was Gwen.
“I don’t like you.”
“Why not?”
“You’re not my type.”
Theodore seemed hurt by her rejection. Gwen indeed had her own ideal type. After a moment of contemplation, he decided to adjust his approach. “Could you be more specific?”
Gwen’s expression remained cold. “You’re dumb. You’ll affect my future child’s intelligence.”
Theodore couldn’t help but feel it was the biggest joke he had ever heard. After all, he was someone with an 10 of 167. I find it hard to believe your reason for rejecting me.”
Gwen raised an eyebrow. “Really? I’ve heard that your department has a particularly tough project you haven’t managed to secure yet. Isn’t it because of your stupidity?”
Theodore quieldy realized she was referring to the ongoing competition with Marendi’s Mysoria Bank for the options.
This project was indeed challenging. He had tried several strategies, only to be consistently thwarted by Mysoria Bank’s overwhelming dominance.
Even without Gwen mentioning it, Theodore had already been infuriated by their strong–arm tactics and was planning to show them his capabilities.
He said confidently, “I promise, milady, I’ll secure that project and show you I’m the smartest one around here. By then, will you take me out for a meal?”
Noticing that her provocation had worked, Gwen decided to relent. “Prove your worth first.”
Theodore beamed, seemingly unfazed by the challenge. “No problem! I’ll return with a victory.”
As a Porsche pulled up, Gwen got into the car and drove away.
That evening, Gwen called Henry to proudly report her progress.
On the other end, Henry chuckled affectionately. “Got it. By the way, the gifts are ready. I had Alfie bring them back.
Chap 53 Holding a Goudon Was Her Sperity
He’ll join you tomorrow for the Quantum Corporation project.”
“Are you sending Alfie to assist me?” Gwen felt a surge of nervousness.
Alfie Mills had been Henry’s right–hand man for over ten years. Having such an important person by her side showcased Henry’s support and trust in Gwen.
“Yes. I know you can handle everything, but it eases my mind knowing he’s there.”
“You’re the best, Henry.” A warm feeling spread through Gwen. When she returned to Bellmont City, many were waiting to see her fail, but Henry’s support was her strongest backing.
“Stop with the flattery and get some rest.” Henry chuckled before hanging up.
Gwen slept soundly that night
The next morning, she yawned as she made her way to the living room.
Alfie was already there, neatly dressed and ready. “Good morning, Ms. Lawson. I’m Alfie Mills, and I’ll be assisting you
from now on.
His
tone was crisp and straightforward, lacking any obsequiousness, which Gwen appreciated as she preferred a professional approach.
“Welcome.”
She noticed a pile of gift boxes on the table. They were clearly gifts from Henry,
As she relaxed on the couch, she opened one of the boxes. Inside was a Chopard watch adorned with 201 carats of diamonds, shimmering brilliantly with a breathtaking design. Gwen estimated it to be worth around three million dollars
Gwen tried it on and admired it before smiling in satisfaction. Henry’s taste remained impeccable as ever.
Later, the two arrived at the company.
In the general manager’s office, Alfie skillfully presented the morning data, and Gwen confirmed that everything was
in order.
Suddenly,
Carson barged in despite the secretary’s attempts to stop him.
