Chapter 176 -
As Huxley left, so did Peter and the others. Hunter nodded and left as well.
It was at this time Sebastian walked over with a glass of wine as he carried a faint smile on his face. "Are you alright, Asher?"
Asher shook his head slightly.
Sebastian then laughed and said, "Huxley lived under your shadow all these years. It's only
natural that he has a lot of suppressed anger. Now that he has become the heir of the Crawfords, it's easy to see that he wants to take his anger out on you. Huxley... He's a petty man and will amount to nothing. Meanwhile... You, Asher. I believe that you're a man capable of great feats. If you wish to take back what is rightfully yours, I can help you."
When Sebastian walked over to Asher, Rose was by his side as well. She had changed into something more casual, yet she was still just as attractive.
Asher then said, "It's not going to be easy if I want your help, right?"
When Sebastian heard his rhetorical question, he smiled and then looked at Asher with a much more serious attitude. "Not that hard either. Rose and I are planning to reform the Gentlemen. Join us, and I'll help you take back your right as heir. Joining the Gentlemen does no harm to you. You won't reject my offer, right?"
"You want me to work for you?!" Ash glared straight back at Sebastian with a cold expression without fear.
Jeremiah grunted, "What? Do you think this is below you? Think about the situation you're in right now, Asher. The only reason Sebastian invited you to join us is because he admires your talent. You're no one without his help."
"Don't put it that way, Jeremiah. That being said, you got the underlying meaning right," Sebastian said with a smile.
When Jeremiah heard that, he laughed.
It was at this time Rose suddenly gave Asher a look. Asher saw that and knew that Rose was trying to tell him that even if he was a failure, there was no need for him to become Sebastian's lapdog.
"I'm just a failure. If I do join the Gentlemen, I think the Gentlemen should change its name to something else. The Pack, for example. And you, Sebastian, are the alpha of the pack. In other words, the king of dogs. It doesn't really sound that bad," Asher said.
Everyone who were not fools could understand that Asher was taking a jab at Sebastian. As he gritted his teeth, Jeremiah then said, "Are you trying to get yourself killed? Humiliate Sebastian again and I'm going to show you who's boss around here!"
Asher let out a laugh and continued, "If Sebastian is the king of the dogs, then you, Jeremiah, are the beta of the pack. That suits you quite well; beta."
"Fuck you!" Jeremiah cursed out loud as he was about to take action.
It was at this time Sebastian suddenly stopped him as he looked at Asher with a dry smile. "I know you don't want to be someone else's underling. However, with your current situation, joining the Gentlemen is your best choice. If you agree to it, we can still be friends. If you don't, we'll be enemies."
Sebastian's voice was not that loud, but his murderous intent was made very clear. Layla was not sure if Asher should agree to it or not as she stood next to him.
Griffin abruptly stood up and walked over, saying, "If you had told me that he would join the Gentlemen, I would have refused to join. Since I've already agreed to it, I won't turn my back on my word. However, I have one condition. I don't care who's going to be the leader of the Gentlemen between you and Rose, I'll be the second in command. Asher will be mine to order around. I've been his little underling for so long, so it's high time that I'm the boss for a change." Sebastian then said, "With your identity, the position as number-two is yours. I'll see to it." Asher glanced at Griffin, and the text message from that night suddenly appeared in his mind. If it was not from Rose, could it be that it was from Griffin?
They had known each other since they were little, so Asher knew Griffin the best. Griffin was someone that genuinely cared.
Asher did not know why, but he suddenly changed his mind about joining and said, "Since you want to boss me around that much, Griffin, I'll give you that chance."
Griffin cracked a cold smile. "I hope you won't regret it." With that, he walked out of the bar. Everyone left the bar around one in the morning. Asher was walking toward the hotel when lights from a car forced him to stop dead in his tracks.
Layla stopped her car and wound down her window. She then said, "Get in."
Asher hesitated for a moment before he threw the cigarette butt in his hand accurately into the bin's ashtray. It was a testament to how much mastery over his strength he had. He got into the car but said nothing as he looked out the window.
Layla drove and asked, "Why did you take Sebastian's offer? It's obvious that the reason he reformed the Gentlemen was to control all the major households in Alexandrius. And you're willing to serve him? Is survival really that important to you?"
"Then, tell me. What else am I supposed to do? If I reject his offer, do you think I can still stay in Alexandrius?" Asher was also in a state of confusion. However, his confusion did not stem from joining the Gentlemen. It was from the fact that Sebastian was forcing him to join the Gentlemen. He was no longer the heir to the Crawfords and a threat to Sebastian. However, Sebastian was still uneasy about him. What was Sebastian afraid of?
Layla was already quite angry. When she heard what Asher had to say, her anger receded, replaced by guilt and understanding. If she were in his shoes, she would probably choose the same path that Asher did.
"Griffin has changed so much. I never thought that Dove would have such a huge impact on him.
It feels like he's a completely different person. He doesn't even greet me anymore. If he didn't
say what he did, would you still have agreed to join the Gentlemen?" Layla asked.
After thinking about it for a long time, Asher slowly responded, "Yes."
Next morning, Asher had just woken up from his sleep and was just going to eat something when his mobile rang. It was Rose.
"Come down now. I'm outside the hotel," Rose said in a commanding tone.
"Why?"
"What do you mean why? You're mine now. You'll do whatever I tell you to do!"
"I'm yours?" Asher was taken aback.
"My underling." With that, Rose hung up.
Asher looked at his mobile dumbstruck. He only managed to regain his composure after a while.
He went down and left the hotel. Just like Rose had said, there was a black car waiting right next to the road. It was not Rose's, but it belonged to someone else.
He opened the door and glanced at Rose who was sitting inside. He got in and then asked, "You're up late, Ms. Schmidt. Seems like you haven't consummated your marriage yet. What? He couldn't do what a normal man can do to satisfy you?"
When Rose heard that, her face slightly flushed red as she glared at Asher and said, "Shut it! Not everyone is like you and thinks only about those things, you filth!"
Asher simply smiled and said, "When animals get into their estrous cycle, they will fight brutally with each other to find a suitable mate. They're even willing to lose their lives. Even animals know how beautiful that feeling is. As a human, and as a normal man, it's completely within reason for me to think about it."
Rose could not find anything to counter Asher's argument. He should just admit to being lustful. Only someone so shameless like him could make something so immoral sound logical. "I'm not here to listen to you spouting nonsense about the biology of animals," Rose said coolly. Asher merely shrugged and said, "I'm simply sharing knowledge on the biological differences between the two sexes with you. Speaking of which, you're still a virgin from the looks of it?" Rose really wanted to stop the car and give him a beating. Perhaps Asher was destined to be her nemesis? Otherwise, why would she feel so agitated every time she saw him?
Only after Rose had given Asher an angry glare did she ask, "What do you mean by the text you sent me yesterday? Who sent you the text message the night before? What does it say?" When Asher heard her line of questioning, he could confirm that the person that sent out the text was not Rose.
When she saw that Asher remained quiet, she then said, "You're now a member of the Gentlemen. My underling, I have the right to know about what is in that message." Asher snorted and said, "Do I have to tell you everything just because I'm your underling? Then, do I have to tell you everything when I go on a date and when I go to a love hotel? Ridiculous." "Asher!" Rose gritted her teeth as she looked at Asher.
Asher simply turned his head and looked outside the window. She was so angry that she had to stop the car by the road side and said, "Since you've joined the Gentlemen, you have to heed my command."
Asher then said, "Even so, I can't tell you everything about me."
Rose said nothing for the next minute or two. The car was strangely quiet, and even the atmosphere was becoming even more tense.
Rose took in a deep breath and said, "Fine, I won't ask you about that. However, there's
something that you must clarify for me. What's the relationship between Sebastian and Selena?"
