Chapter 145 -
The moment Dove got into Savannah's car, Layla drove out of the parking lot. There were too
many luxury cars in Alexandrius, so even if Layla felt that the Maserati looked familiar, she would never have expected that it belonged to Savannah.
More than ten minutes later, Savannah and Dove sat across from each other on different couches in a café. The former said smilingly, "Ms. Yaeger, you and Asher got to know each other in Rollinsford, right? I keep hearing about you from him. Now that I get to meet you today, you're definitely as beautiful as he described."
Dove could only smile humbly in return. "May I know your name, miss?"
Savannah just smiled and replied, "My surname is Anderson. You can tell Asher my surname, and he'll know who I am right away. Ms. Yaeger, I hear that you have a crush on Asher. He's always flocked by beautiful women, not to mention that the women who are in love with him are more beautiful than the ones before."
Savannah maintained a natural expression and a neutral tone, so Dove would never have expected that the former hated Asher's guts in reality. "Ms. Anderson, why did you come looking for me today? Could it be that you have a crush on him as well?"
Hearing this, Savannah was surprised for a moment, but she did not reply. It was only after taking a sip of her coffee cup did she finally open her mouth. "I used to have that thought, but I realized that I'm incompatible with him. On the other hand, I think you and him are a match made in heaven."
It was natural for Dove to feel very happy on the inside upon hearing those words. All women loved hearing praises about them, after all. Of course, Dove was no exception. Furthermore, Savannah's disguise was flawless, so Dove did not raise her guard against her at all. The latter even shot her a small smile before replying, "Thank you. Asher is such an outstanding man... How could I ever be compared to him? I know that I don't have a future with him, and yet I insist on barging into his life and being with him without letting him go."
"That might not be the case, Ms. Yaeger. I admire your spirit. I wonder if we can become friends." "Of course!"
Savannah pretended to look surprised before bringing another topic up. "Ah, by the way, I just remembered something. Today seems to be Asher's birthday. Do you know about it, Ms. Yaeger?"
"Asher's birthday?" Dove was surprised to hear it. "What a coincidence!"
"Yeah. In the past when Asher was still in the Capital City, he would throw a huge banquet to celebrate his birthday. This year, he's keeping it on the down low, so I've not heard him talking about it. Because of that, I almost forgot about his birthday! Ms. Yaeger, why don't you prepare a surprise for Asher and throw him a birthday party?" Savannah suggested.
Dove did not expect that today was Asher's birthday. To her, being able to throw Asher a private birthday party and celebrate the day with him was a dream come true, but she stubbornly said, "I don't think that's a good idea. After all, I'm not his girlfriend."
"You're overthinking it, Ms. Yaeger. Is his girlfriend the only one who can celebrate his birthday with him? Hmm... Why don't I prepare the surprise for him?"
Dove thought long and hard. Since she had found out that today was Asher's birthday, there was no way she could let Savannah be the one making all the preparations. She hesitated for a moment before agreeing with pink cheeks. “I'll make the preparations."
Savannah said with a smile, "This is a rare chance, you know? As a friend, I should attend the party as well, but since it's a surprise that you're lovingly preparing, I won't be interrupting your lovely night with him. I'm very familiar with the restaurants in this area; why don't I choose a perfect spot for you? We're now friends, so please don't turn down my offer, Ms. Yaeger."
It was clear that Dove could not reject Savannah's offer, so in the end, she had no choice but to agree.
After that, Savannah took Dove to a decent restaurant. The private rooms there were designed elegantly and cozily. Obviously, they were prepared for couples. Having made all the
arrangements there, Dove finally gave Asher a call. Since it was a surprise for him, she did not mention anything about his birthday. All she said was that they would be having dinner together, and it was mandatory for him to attend.
When Asher picked up the call, he happened to be on his way home. Since Dove was very firm on her stance, he had no choice but to hurry over to the restaurant to see what was going on. The moment he stepped into the designated private room after reaching the restaurant, he noticed the beautiful cake on the table right away. He was surprised for a moment before smiling and asking, “Is today your birthday?"
Frankly speaking, Savannah knew that Asher would know something was up the moment he arrived at the restaurant.
However, if she did not word it like this, she would not be able to trick Dove in the first place. After all, none of them were idiots. That was why Savannah made a gamble with that plan. If Asher were to arrive at the restaurant, she believed that Dove would definitely have ways to make him stay there to dine with her. The reason was pretty simple; Dove had a crush on Asher, so she would definitely cherish the rare opportunity to have dinner with him.
The moment Asher walked into the private room, he saw the beautiful cake decorated with fruits on the table. The first thought that popped into his mind was that it was Dove's birthday today. No matter what happened, they were still friends, so the fact that he arrived at the private room without a gift made him feel rather awkward.
"Why didn't you tell me in advance? I would've prepared a gift for you! What would you like as a birthday present? I'll go buy you one right now!" Asher continued to ask.
Stunned, Dove replied hesitantly, "Isn't today your birthday?"
"My birthday?" Asher looked confused. "My birthday has already passed a long time ago." "Huh?" Dove blinked stupidly.
Asher frowned slightly before asking, "Who told you today is my birthday?"
Dove shook her head. "I don't know her as well. All I know is that her surname is Anderson. She
told me that she's your friend and that as long as I told you her surname, you'd know who she is right away. Ah, by the way, she's quite a looker with a good temperament. She should be a rich young lady."
Asher was confused by the explanation. His mind spun rapidly as he lit a cigarette. Dove's contact was a beautiful woman with the Anderson surname. Who could she be?
At that moment, his eyes lit up as he asked, "Have you met Tristan's older sister?"
Asher could not think of anyone else that fit those criteria other than Savannah. However, what he did not understand was her intention to deceive Dove. What exactly was her purpose? Dove was a smart woman, so she replied, "Are you saying that the woman is Tristan's older sister?"
Asher nodded solemnly. "She should be the one. Other than telling you that it's my birthday today, what else did she say?"
Dove did not expect that the beautiful woman who looked prim and proper was Tristan's sister. She could not believe that she was that gullible to have fallen for that woman's tricks.
That thought made her look slightly guilty. She bowed her head before saying, "Nope. Why did she lie to me?"
"It's fine. It's not like she lied to you about something important anyway. However, if you bump into her in the future, you mustn't believe anything she says, okay? Savannah is a very manipulative woman, after all." The sight of Dove looking so guilty seemed to amuse Asher. He suppressed a smile while adding, "It seems that you've ordered dinner for the both of us. It's such a shame to let everything go to waste. Have the waiters serve us the food, then." Dove smiled sweetly after hearing Asher's words.
Soon, a meal meant for couples was quickly served to the two. It came with two glasses of red wine as well. Dove picked up her glass and said, "It's worth getting deceived by her." Naturally, Asher could detect the underlying meaning in Dove's words. He added with a smile, "Cheers to our friendship."
"Friendship?" Dove pouted immediately. Before Asher could say anything else, she downed half of the wine glass.
Savannah could hear the glasses being clinked together from outside the private room. A smug smile that indicated the success of her scheme was quick to surface. As expected, she had slipped drugs into the red wine. No matter how good Asher's martial art skills were, there was no way he could resist the power of the drugs.
She waited for another couple of minutes till the private room went silent. Then, she opened a small crack in the door and took a peek. As expected, both Asher and Dove were slumped over the table.
Savannah had already made all the arrangements in advance. She had her underlings move Asher and Dove out of the room and into the hotel located across the restaurant.
They were soon deposited on a round bed in a suite meant for couples. Savannah ushered her underlings out of the room after that. Once the last person closed the door behind them, she finally dialed Rose's number and reported, "Ms. Schmidt, everything has gone smoothly according to plan. Both Asher and Dove are currently drugged. Once I'm done taking pictures of them, is there anything else you want me to do?"
"Just go according to your plan. I know that I can trust you since you're in charge," Rose replied. "Okay. Once I send you the pictures, I'll wait for your green light before sending them to Griffin." After hanging up on Rose, Savannah approached Asher with flames of rage dancing in her eyes. Truthfully speaking, she could not wait to kill him on the spot in order to exact revenge for Tristan.
She took a few deep breaths to calm down before she started to strip Asher down. In the end, he was left with only his boxers. Dove did not escape from the same fate as well; soon, she was only clad in her lingerie. Then, Savannah used all of her strength to push Dove into Asher's arms and drape the blanket over their chests, making them seem as if they were not wearing anything at all.
###Chapter 150 Gone is Their Brotherhood
A short while later, Rose's phone vibrated a few times in a row. She tapped on the screen and saw the notification of a picture sent by Savannah on Whatsapp. A quick tap showed the picture
on the screen in full view; Dove was lying in Asher's arms peacefully. It was difficult to discern whether the couple was wearing clothes or not.
For some reason, Rose felt weird on the inside. Not only was she starting to feel jealous, but there were also traces of anger boiling within. She decided to close the picture and opted to send a message to Savannah instead.
On the other hand, Griffin was just getting ready for bed when he received a series of pictures from an unknown number. When he noticed Dove and Asher lying on the same bed while cuddling with each other, he felt as if someone had chucked something at his head violently, making him look dumbfounded for a moment.
Earlier that noon, Asher had gone to look for him, claiming that he did not have feelings for Dove. After just a few hours, both of them were spotted sleeping together. It was a very ironic moment.
Overcome by rage, Griffin punched the wall violently and scraped his knuckles in the process. The white wall was soon stained by crimson blood.
"Asher, I treat you like my best friend, but to think that you have the gall to lie to me! Looks like Rose's right; I'm nothing but a lackey to you! Heh! Since that's the case, this is the end of our brotherhood! We won't acknowledge each other's existence from now on!" Griffin gritted his teeth angrily. It was the first time he felt so much rage swelling in his heart. The drugs only lasted for two hours or so. Around midnight, Asher finally showed signs of waking up. Soon, he cracked his eyes open slowly. The first thing he noticed was the unfamiliar décor in the room. It seemed that he was in a hotel room.
His head was still pounding as he tried to sit up. It was at this moment when he felt something pressing against his arm. He turned his head subconsciously and was stunned. "D-Dove?" The aforementioned woman opened her eyes slowly and noticed the unfamiliar room as well. Knowing that something was wrong, she quickly sat up, causing the blanket to slide down her body. In an instant, her half-naked body was revealed to Asher.
Her lingerie was light blue, which made her skin seem fairer and more flawless.
"Ah!" The moment Dove noticed Asher, she grabbed the blanket and covered her chest, a complicated expression taking over soon enough. "Asher, you..."
Naturally, Asher understood what Dove was trying to say. "Someone drugged us. I just woke up as well."
Dove finally recalled the moments before she passed out. She could not recall anything right after she was done with the glass of red wine, which meant the wine was the problematic one. "Was Savannah the one?" she inquired with a grim expression.
"Who else but her?" Asher bit his cheek angrily. Savannah had definitely gone out of hand this time. How dare she drag him into one of her schemes! If he did not teach her a lesson soon, she would definitely do worse things to him in the future.
"I hope that no one else knows about this." Truthfully speaking, Asher felt very embarrassed. Even though both of them were unconscious the whole time, they were still found lying together in the end, not to mention they were only wearing their undergarments. His brows were knit together as he forced himself to get out of bed. Slipping into his pants as quickly as he could, he grabbed his shirt before saying, "I'll wait for you outside."
After that, Asher exited the room.
Dove lifted the blanket to look at herself, her face already a brilliant shade of red. Soon, she dressed up and exited the room as well. Asher was found to be smoking in the corridor the whole time. Having exited the hotel, he sent her home first before returning to the Crawford residence.
Asher lay on his bed till it was three in the morning. However, he was not sleepy at all. He kept pondering about the reason why Savannah would do this to him and Dove. What exactly was her purpose? More importantly, why would she choose Dove out of all women?
Once something like this happened, the person that Asher would feel very sorry for was Griffin. That noon, he had promised him that he did not harbor romantic feelings for Dove, only to lie on the same bed with her that night...
Suddenly, Asher's eyes became sharp and cold. Griffin had a crush on Dove. What if Savannah was trying to drive a wedge between him and Griffin by using this incident?
Asher found it difficult to sleep for the rest of the night. The next dawn, he drove over to the Quinn residence.
"Grandpa Quinn, it's so early in the morning, and yet you're already training hard. It's no wonder your condition is the same as your youthful times." The moment Asher walked into the Quinn residence, he spotted Harlow training in the courtyard.
The latter stopped in his movements and smiled. "I've made it a habit to wake up early for so many years. Asher, what's the reason behind your visit at this time of day?"
Asher smiled and replied, "I'm here to look for Griffin."
"Griffin hasn't woken up yet. Why don't I ask a servant to go wake him up? In the meantime, we
can have breakfast together," Harlow suggested.
"It's fine. I'll go wake him up."
Asher knew where Griffin's room was located. He arrived at the room and knocked on the door
soon enough. "Fatty, wake up. I have something to tell you."
Frankly speaking, Griffin did not sleep a wink at all. Exhaustion had already swept over his mind
at that time, and he was getting ready for a quick nap when he heard Asher's voice. "What is it? You can just talk to me outside." He sounded quite cold. If Asher were to pay attention to the intonation, he would discover a slight trace of anger too.
Upon hearing Griffin's odd tone, Asher was very sure that he had found out about last night's incident.
He lit another cigarette and took a few deep puffs from it. "Fatty, do you believe me?" "Believe you? I've placed too much faith in you, Asher. Leave right now. This is the end of our friendship and our brotherhood. We shouldn't meet up anymore," Griffin replied with a huff. Asher frowned and tried to explain himself. "Fatty, listen to me. It's not what you think it is. I got duped by someone."
"Duped? Haha! Fine, I'll play along and say that's what happened. However, this doesn't hide the fact that you slept with Dove. Asher, please leave the Quinn residence right now. Don't make my life difficult. Thanks," Griffin snarked back in response.
Asher wanted to say something, but he held his tongue after hearing how cold Griffin was to him. It was clear that the latter was angry at him right now, so he did not have any shred of rationality left in him. The more Asher were to explain, the more Griffin would think that he was coming up with excuses to justify the incident. In the end, Asher decided to not explain anymore. "Even if you don't want me as your brother, I'll still treat you as my best friend. You'll always be my brother, Griffin. I'll be leaving now. I'll call you later."
Asher did not bother to overstay his welcome. He left the Quinn residence as soon as he was
done speaking.
In the car, he folded his arms over the steering wheel as he massaged his temples with his thumbs. He and Griffin had been best buds since they were young, so it was impossible for their brotherhood to crumble overnight after decades of being friends. However, the problem right now was that Griffin did not believe his words at all. That was why the best way to prove Asher's innocence was to make Savannah admit that she was the one behind the scheme.
Asher started the car immediately with that thought in mind. His destination was Savannah's travel company.
Savannah was the one behind Griffin and Jeremiah's racing incident. At first, Asher wanted to teach her a lesson, but he had been preoccupied by the Gentlemen's affairs, so that task was left in the to-do list for a very long time.
What Asher did not expect was that Savannah's arrogance knew no bounds. She had grown so bold to the point where she dared to slip drugs into his drink. Even if Rose was the one backing her up, Asher would not hesitate to humiliate Savannah.
Meanwhile, the latter already knew that her involvement had been exposed, so she avoided Asher on purpose. However, she had a meeting that she needed to attend in the company. That was why she arrived at the company early in the morning and started the meeting straight away. It only ended around ten o'clock. Then, Savannah issued all the workload to the rest of the staff before making preparations to leave.
Just as she was about to pack her things and leave her office, chaos broke out in the public office outside. A security guard exclaimed, "Who the hell are you? Please leave this place right now, or else we'll take action!"
Shock coursed through Savannah's veins when she heard the roar. She approached the doorway
hurriedly and peeked through the tiny glass window. Soon, a slender figure, who happened to be Asher, appeared in her line of sight. Naturally, Savannah did not expect Asher to reach here so soon.
She knew very well that even Rose was scared of him when he got seriously mad, so there was no way she could handle him in that state.
Anxiety gripped her heart. No matter how much Savannah tried, she could not come up with a solution at all. In the end, she dialed Rose's number hurriedly and asked for her help. Just as she was done with the phone call, the security guards in the public office were all kicked to the floor, courtesy of one Asher Crawford. The other staff members in the office instinctively cowered in respective corners, not wanting to get involved in this clusterfuck. "Where the hell is Savannah Anderson?" Asher stomped one foot onto a security guard's chest heavily, making the latter choke on air. He immediately pointed at Savannah's office. "Who's that man? He actually has the guts to come to our company and cause us trouble!
Doesn't he know who Ms. Anderson is?" A young woman whispered to her colleague, fear etched on her face. "Precisely. I heard that Ms. Anderson is a member of the Gentlemen. Her status in that organization is pretty high as well. Since that guy dares to cause trouble here, he'll be doomed sooner or later."
"I don't think so. He looks pretty strong to me."
At that time, everyone in the office started murmuring among themselves.
