Chapter 142 -
Asher shot a disdainful glance at Savannah and the others. A vague smile played on his lips as he said, "You speak as if this pile of trash can do anything to me."
Upon hearing his words, Tristan pointed at him angrily and exclaimed, "Look at him, Sana! He's way too arrogant!"
Savannah frowned slightly as well, but she did not say anything.
Meanwhile, Layla was fuming with rage. Brat, it's best for you to stop while you can. Right now, you look like you're itching to get beaten up!
"I was born this way. If you're unsatisfied with how things are, feel free to sock me in the face." Asher cast a provocative look in Tristan's direction.
The latter was so mad that he was about to blow his lid. "Fine! If that's what you want, then that's what you get! You think I don't have the guts to punch you, huh?"
However, Savannah grabbed Tristan immediately. Asher's attitude was completely different from what she had imagined. She originally thought that Asher would choose to endure the humiliation, but he showed no signs of bowing his head in submission. What on earth was he planning to do?
No matter how smart Savannah was, she could never guess what Asher was thinking.
Tristan shook Savannah's hand off him while roaring, "Sana, I can't withstand this humiliation at all! I don't care if this is just a ploy to get me in trouble!" After that, he rushed toward Asher. "Tristan Anderson, come back this instant!" Savannah ordered furiously.
It was as if Tristan did not hear her voice at all. Only one thought occupied his mind at that moment, and that was to make Asher pay for what he had done.
However, the latter happened to be gazing at him nonchalantly. He even took a drag out of his cigarette, which was an act of relaxation. The more Savannah watched him, the more she felt that something was wrong. At that moment, a man rushed out of the greenbelt near them. He was wielding a switchblade that glinted harshly under the bright sun.
That man was one of Hunter's underlings. The moment he rushed out of the greenbelt, he plunged his switchblade into Tristan's thigh immediately. Blood spurted out of the fresh wound, reaching as far as three feet in the air. Almost immediately, Tristan's pants were stained crimson. "Argh!" Tristan collapsed to the ground on the spot as he rolled about in excruciating pain. The women who were present at the scene were frightened by Tristan's state of injury. They may have been arrogant, but they had never witnessed situations like that before. Even the men's knees started to shake in fear at the terrifying sight.
"Tristan!" Savannah rushed toward the injured man immediately. "Call an ambulance!"
Hunter's underling was named Ned Willcox. He was one of the men who had stuck with Hunter since the start. Even after stabbing Tristan once, he showed no signs of mercy. He kicked Savannah away abruptly before proceeding to stab Tristan on the thigh again and again. His screams came rippling out of his mouth, his complexion already pale to the brink of him passing out. He stammered, "Sana... save... save me..."
At that moment, Savannah had chills running down her spine. She never would have expected that things would progress to this point. Her body shook uncontrollably, her voice already trembling as she hollered at the members of the Gentlemen, "Hurry up and save him! Apprehend the murderer! Don't let him escape! Do it now!"
Ned narrowed his eyes, a murderous aura surrounding his form. He echoed darkly, "Whoever has a death wish can go right ahead!"
He twirled the switchblade in his hand expertly. One glance at him showed that he tended to use his blade a lot. The members of the Gentlemen were the pride and joy of their families, which shaped their spoiled personalities. They would bully commoners all they wanted, but when it came to using lethal weapons and getting into actual fights, their cowardly sides would be revealed on the spot. All of them could only stare at Ned in fear and alert. None of them dared to move even an inch.
It was then Savannah realized that Asher had planned everything in advance. He had a completely unrelated person attack Tristan in order to demonstrate his strength and brutality in front of everyone just to intimidate them. From the looks of the situation, he seemed to have achieved his purpose.
"Send Tristan to the hospital!" Savannah could not afford to let her thoughts stray. Her top priority was to save Tristan's life. None of the Gentlemen's members dared to sacrifice their lives for Tristan, but the least they could do was to send him to the hospital. In a flash, over twenty members stood out and claimed that they would send Tristan to the hospital, but in actuality, they wanted to use this chance to flee from the situation.
Savannah gritted out through her teeth, "Asher, you arranged for this incident to happen from the get go, didn't you? How dare you hire an assassin to murder someone! The law will punish you!"
Asher just scoffed and replied, "I hired someone to kill Tristan? Where's the proof?"
Ned harrumphed and added, "I have a personal vendetta against Tristan. It has nothing to do with anyone else. Go ahead and call the cops. He is reaping what he sowed. I don't mind facing the music right now. By the way, is there anyone else who wants to end up like Tristan? I'll grant that person's wish right now to avoid staining my comrades' hands with their blood!" Those who had more than two brain cells knew instantly that Ned was one of Asher's people. However, no one could accuse him of such crimes without concrete proof. It was obvious that Ned was one of the underworld gangsters. People like that easily outnumbered the Gentlemen's members by a huge margin. No one wanted to risk their dainty lives in a fight against such cold- blooded and brutal gangsters.
"Ms. Anderson, please let Ms. Schmidt know that I'm quitting the Gentlemen." One of the youths spoke up at this point.
"Me too. I'm the only son in my family, so I can't afford to get into any accidents. Sorry." "Count me in..."
At least ten members announced their immediate resignation on the spot. They had already driven away before Savannah could say anything.
No matter how smart she was, she could not come up with a strategy at all. Instead, she could only watch them leave.
"Asher, if anything were to happen to Tristan, the Andersons would definitely fight you to death!" Savannah drove to the hospital immediately with that threat hanging in the air.
Soon, a police car arrived at the scene. Ned was taken away forcibly after that. From the beginning till the end, he never exchanged a single sentence with Asher.
In a restaurant located across from the street, Maggie and Annette Lane were standing in front of
a window belonging to a private room on the second floor. Their faces were etched with shock; they never expected that an armed fight would break out of nowhere.
A moment later, Annette's expression became calm again. She could not help but comment, "Tristan is too brash for his own good."
Maggie said, "I heard that he and Asher had a history of conflicts in the past. Tristan would never have the guts to provoke Asher in the past due to his insignificant strength. However, he felt that the Gentlemen served as a strong shield that could back him up. Coupled by the fact that Savannah's status within the Gentlemen was second to Rose, it was only natural that his ego would be extremely inflated.
After that, Maggie sighed before adding, "He dug his own grave this time by stepping on Asher's toes. This is what he deserves."
Annette folded her arms in front of her chest in return. "My guess is that the man who stabbed Tristan will pretend to not know Asher, so he ends up taking full responsibility for this incident. However, everyone knows very well that he's one of Asher's men. He's also the mastermind behind the incident. The members of the Gentlemen may only be descendants of second and third-rate families, but their lives are still more precious compared to the common folk. No one wants to become the second Tristan, that's for sure. So, I think a lot of people will quit the Gentlemen on the spot after this incident gets spread around. Asher's plan may be slightly brutal, but nonetheless, it's still a good plan. This guy is more interesting now compared to how he was two years ago."
Maggie shot Annette a surprised look. "Annette, could it be that you have a crush on Asher?"
"As if. Just because I complimented him doesn't mean I like him." The latter rolled her eyes at her cousin.
Maggie just smiled and said, "It's normal to like him romantically, isn't it? Not only is he handsome, but he also has the brains to back him up, not to mention that he's the heir of the Crawford family. He's definitely outstanding."
"Stop fawning over him. That guy has a fiancée, remember? It's not like you've forgotten about that fact. Come on, let's go," Annette replied.
"Fiancee? Oh, you mean Phoebe?" Maggie was reminded by that night when she found out about Phoebe and Seth doing the deed in one of the bar's washrooms. She hesitated for a few seconds before blurting out, "Annette, I want to tell you something. Please promise me that you won't tell anyone else about this."
"What is it? You sound so mysterious." Annette fluffed her hair casually.
"Phoebe and Seth are underground lovers."
"What did you say?" Annette was stunned, having not expected the sudden exposure. Shock was written all over her beautiful eyes. "Maggie, you mustn't make up things when it comes to these people. If Asher were to hear about this, you wouldn't be able to escape unscathed."
"I saw them with my own eyes! Why would I be lying about it? A few days ago, my friends and I went to a bar..." After that, Maggie told Annette everything that happened that night. The latter replied in shock, "I never expected Phoebe to be this type of woman!"
"I know, right? I was pretty surprised as well! At first, I thought I was seeing things! Annette, do you think we should let Asher know about this incident?" Maggie asked while heading toward the exit.
After exiting the private room, Annette was about to reply when the door to the private room from across them was suddenly flung open. They did not expect to see the Harrison brothers walking out of the room. Now that they had bumped into each other, they all looked rather awkward.
"Annette, I never thought that you'd be interested in Asher's affairs. Heh!" Joel commented with
a light smile.
"Didn't you choose to hide here just to watch the show as well? Let's go, Maggie." After that, Annette descended the stairs.
Joel and Seth exchanged glances instinctively with bitter smiles on their faces. It seemed that they were not the only ones paying attention to this particular incident.
