Chapter 113 He Really Cares About You
A fight? It was more than that. Seeing Galatea hesitant to say anything, Cormac smiled apologetically. "This is something between the two of you, so I technically shouldn't stick my nose in it. However, as his only friend, I can't help but want to
speak for him." "Go ahead," she replied.
"Well, Alaric is stubborn but soft-hearted; he'd rather suffer than embarrass himself. Sometimes, he wants to apologize and say something nice, but his words always end up angering people. He never says anything sweet, and he has no EQ. When he likes someone, he provokes them to get their attention. It's pretty immature, but it's related to his upbringing."
Galatea thought, 'What about his upbringing? Wasn't he a wealthy young heir? He joined the military later, and everything also went smoothly for him.'
Cormac continued, "His parents had an arranged marriage. There was no love involved, and both of them were dominant. Even after marriage, they couldn't get along. Their relationship didn't improve even after they got a child. Moreover, there were even serious fights on how to educate the child. In Alaric's childhood, his parents were always fighting."
"Later on, his father had an adulterous affair with a secretary. When Mrs. Marigold found out, she directly went to the company and caused a scene. Eventually, she pushed the secretary to suicide. After that happened, Alaric's parents fought even worse to the point that they hated each other. Perhaps this incident stimulated him and turned him antisocial."
"At a young age, he gave up a good life at home and went to the military to escape his family. It was quite unfortunate; he could've stayed in the military, but he got seriously injured during a mission and had to retire. Although he survived, as you know, he got serious lasting effects from the wounds. These years have been tough for him, but he never says anything about it. Also, due to his parents' bad relationship, he doesn't feel emotionally secure."
"He won't easily fall in love with any woman, but once he does, he'll love her with every fiber of his being. The last time you passed out from a car accident, you didn't know how worried he was. I've grown up with him since we were young, and I've never seen him care so much for someone as he does for you."
During the time she was hospitalized after the accident, Alaric really took good care of her.
"Since he has no emotional experience, he handles fights in a clumsy way, especially after Ambrose's appearance. Thus, his problem-solving skills became negative when he encountered his love rival." Cormac said.
"Love rival?" Hearing these words, Galatea found them quite funny.
Did he consider Ambrose his love rival?
Cormac replied, "Yes; his love rival. So, he was particularly curious to know whether you couldn't forget Ambrose or if you still had feelings for him, which is why he wanted to verify it by any possible means." "I already ended my relationship with Ambrose a long time ago, and I can say with a clear conscience that he hurt me in the past. Although I don't have much money, I'd never reconcile with a man who has hurt me before." Galatea replied. Hearing this, Cormac was also relieved on Alaric's behalf.
"As a bystander, I absolutely believe you. However, Alaric isn't so rational," Cormac paused before continuing, "You should be more aware of his current physical condition than I am. Each of his seizures can be fatal; you're an expert in this, so if there's a way to cure his aftereffects, I truly hope you can continue treating him."
"Of course, I'm only begging and not forcing you. To treat him or not is up to you, and nobody else can decide that. I'm just here to tell you that Alaric really cares about you; you're incredibly important to him." Hearing this, some of Galatea's anger subsided, and she couldn't help but sigh, "I never thought Alaric would have a genuine friend like you."
"There's no other choice. After all, we grew up together. If I had met him halfway, I wouldn't have become friends with him, either." She smiled.
After finishing their meal, he escorted her to her clinic, and she invited him in to take a look. "We're still renovating, so please don't mind the mess. Make yourself at home, Cormac."
"Why would I mind? The location is good, and it has a big enough space."
"Well, I've seen quite a few rental shops before, but I fell in love with this one at first sight."
"You have great taste," he said. "To truly open the clinic, you will need to follow a lot of procedures. However, you don't need to worry about the follow-up ones; I'll handle them all."
"I'll thank you first," Galatea said. It did require many procedures, but with Cormac's help, it'd be much simpler.
After leaving the place, Cormac went to the hospital to report today's situation to Alaric.
"How did the investigation go? Where did she get the money?" Alaric asked as soon as he walked in.
Cormac didn't answer immediately on purpose. Instead, he picked up and sipped a glass of water.
"Tell me quickly!"
He swallowed the drink in his mouth and said, "I found out that she got a legal bank loan. Moreover, she rented a shop on Everpeace Street in plans to open a clinic there. I've already seen it, and the place is nice."
"Open a clinic?"
Alaric didn't expect this. Where did this woman suddenly get such ambition?
"You said her shop is on Everpeace Street? There's a lot of troublemakers there, so keep an eye on her. Don't let her suffer from anything."
Hearing this, Cormac complained, "You secretly care so much for her, but you always do things that upset her in person. What's the point of that?" Alaric remained silent.
"If you care about her, just tell her directly. How would she know if you don't show it?"
"Who said I care about her?" Alaric turned his head away.
"Well, keep denying it!" Cormac retorted.
Alaric remained silent out of anger, only speaking after a while as he forced himself to ask, "What about Ambrose? Don't let him approach Galatea while I'm not around!" "Speaking of Ambrose, Galatea told me something today. Do you want to hear it?"
"Just spit it out!" Alaric eagerly instructed.
