Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 256

---

That evening, Everett called to let Selena know he'd be tied up in meetings for the next few days and wouldn't be heading back to Moon Bay, so as not to mess with her sleep.

Selena played the part of being a bit miffed and reluctantly insisted he come back as soon as he wrapped up his meetings, throwing in a cheeky warning not to get swept away by any random women. Deep down, though, she felt a wave of relief.

Everett, catching onto her game, teased back with a lazy drawl. "Oh, Mrs. Bennett, you're really giving me a hard time here. It's just a bunch of guys around me, no ladies in sight! Besides, do you honestly think I've got the energy to mess around? Huh?" To clear his name, he even started a video call, showing Selena the room full of men.

Selena was caught off guard, not expecting him to call during a meeting, let alone chat like this. Her cheeks turned a bright shade of red.

"You... why didn't you mention you were in a meeting!"

Rumors already had her pinned as some sort of enchantress, and now this just seemed to seal the deal...

Everett stayed cool as a cucumber, clearly enjoying himself. "Mrs. Bennett, you never asked."

With a decisive "click," Selena hung up the call.

What a jerk!

Talk about embarrassing!

The next morning, Selena used the excuse of needing wedding supplies to slip out the back door, making her way to the hospital.

She needed to get an ultrasound to check on the baby-no more putting it off. But with Everett being so attentive lately, she worried he might have someone tailing her.

She'd already booked an appointment online, so she went straight in once she arrived.

Lying on the bed, she lifted her shirt as the doctor applied some gel and moved the probe over her belly. The screen flickered to life.

In the midst of the dark mass, there was a tiny speck, and Selena stared in wonder, "Is that my baby?"

The doctor chuckled softly and began to explain.

"It's just a little embryo right now, too early to see much. Around eight weeks, we should be able to detect the heartbeat and see more development..."

At that moment, the reality hit her-she was going to be a mom.

Warmth spread through her chest, and her eyes brimmed with tears.

Mom, Dad, are you watching?

I'm going to be a mother.

Finally, I'm going to have someone who's family, someone who'll always be there.

She would no longer be alone.

After the check-up, back in the consulting room, the doctor silently reviewed the ultrasound printout, his brow slightly furrowed.

Selena watched, her heart skipping a beat, "Doctor, is there something wrong with the baby?"

After what felt like forever, the doctor finally looked up.

"The embryo is developing fine, but your health is a bit delicate. You

need to take good care of yourself over the next three months-avoid stress and make sure you don't hurt yourself. Any strain could affect the baby, and in severe cases, it might lead to a miscarriage."

As a first-time mom, Selena took his advice to heart, nodding earnestly.

Leaving the hospital, Selena hopped into a cab, asking the driver to take her back to Moon Bay. The care quickly blended into the traffic.

She sat in the backseat, gently holding the ultrasound photo, her eyes soft and full of tenderness, not noticing the car following them.

As they neared an intersection, the light turned red, and the driver came to a halt.

But the car behind them didn't stop. Instead, it sped up, slamming into the back of their car!
