Her Revenge Contract

Chapter 131

A cold chill ran down my spine as the driver stopped the car in front of the place I once called home.

I haven't been here for a while, making Xavier's pack my permanent home, but I didn't want to go to Xavier's as yet. I needed to see if I could find any information on John.

I got out of the car and told the driver he could leave. He raised an eyebrow, feeling the same vibe coming from the place, but nodded his head and drove off.

The foyer was quiet, which was no surprise to me. With John and his family gone, there wasn't much to do here anymore.

I headed to the kitchen, hoping to find Julia there. She was still living there and made sure to keep the place clean and maintained.

Just as expected, I found her in the kitchen.

"Julia?" I called, hearing but not seeing her.

She rose upright from the floor.

"Ms. King, you are back!" She gasped with wide eyes.

I looked at her suspiciously and walked around the counter to see what she was doing.

Startled, I looked at her as I noticed the bucket with soap and water and the scrub brush at her feet.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Cleaning," she simply answered, and she looked down.

Something was wrong.

"At this time of night?" I asked.

"Y-y-yes," she answered, "I-I-I need to keep the place up to standard."

I looked at her suspiciously, knowing she was lying.

"There are enough younger omegas that can help with that," I said, taking the equipment from her. "Come on, let's go sit and talk."

Julia froze in her spot, and she glanced toward the door, shivering like she was afraid.

"Julia?" I called, looking at where her gaze was pinned and seeing nothing that was out of place. "What is wrong?"

I couldn't help but be a little worried. What did Julia go through that made her so anxious and afraid?

Julia raised her head slowly, unable to look me in the eyes. She tried to form words, glaring constantly toward the door.

Was there someone here? Herein the residence? I didn't smell another scent, maybe because the place always had people coming and going.

"T-t-that..." Julia stutters nervously.

Kia suddenly growled fiercely in my mind and startled me. I lost my patience with the old woman. Something was off. Something was wrong. Something was about to change.

"Tell me already!" I growled, "What is going on?"

"S-s-she has returned." Julia forced the words over her lips.

"Who Julia! Who?"

"Beta John's d-d-daughter!" She whispered.

"Erika?" I asked, feeling my heart race and becoming angry.

"No," she shook her head, bewildered, "Beta John's illegitimate child."

"Huh?" I gasped, unable to grasp what she was saying.

I have a cousin I didn't...

This can't be happening, I internally growled.

I could feel the blood drain from my face out of shock as the memory of a girl about three years younger than me flashed before my eyes.

Rose had forced John to send the mother and child away, hoping that no one would ever know that he had been cheating on her. The last thing I could remember was that she had gone to stay with her grandparents in some more rural place. My mind raced, searching for a name, yet I just couldn't remember it.

"Where is she?" I asked, finding my voice.

"In the..."

I didn't listen and rushed out of the kitchen. The smell of cheap perfume lingered down the hall, and I followed the scent into the living room.

My heart stopped when I saw her lazily sitting on the sofa.

I stood at the entrance of the door, looking at the woman sitting on the sofa. She was beautiful, even more so than Erika. Even though she looked well-dressed and presentable, her makeup was plastered on her face.

I entered the living room, feeling a bit awkward as I introduced myself.

"Kate," Julia called from behind me, carrying a tray in her hands, "would you like some coffee?"

The girl jumped off the sofa so smoothly that it was hard to describe and grabbed the mug from the tray.

"Thank you," she said, smiling, showing no humility and a hint of provocation in her eyes, and gulping the coffee down.

Julia stood aside in embarrassment, not knowing what to do. The coffee she made was made for me, and here I stood in total shock looking at this little arrogant girl.

"That was the best coffee I ever had," she said, sitting down. "It was delicious!"

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Oh, come on, Katherine," she said, pouting, "don't you recognize your own cousin?"

I lifted my eyebrows at her.

"What is your name?" I demanded to know.

She lazily got to her feet and found my gaze.

"Emma," she said, "my name is Emma Smit."

Her gaze landed on a painting on the wall, and she hurried to it like it was something new.

I watched the girl with interest, seeing that she was acting more like a child than an adult. Has she been hidden away for so long that she doesn't know the outside world? "Wow..." she gasped, and her hand moved over the painting, constantly touching it.

"What's the matter?" I asked, unsure why she was acting like that.

Emma ignored me and continued moving her fingers over the painting.

"Emma, stop this now!" I growled, and she froze, turning around slowly. She didn't expect me to lose my temper, but I couldn't stand this kind of behavior any longer.

"But cousin," she pouted, seemingly hurt, "tell me, is this painting real? Was it painted by a famous painter?"

"Yes!" I sneered. Why would I still buy fake paintings if I had the resources to afford the originals?

It was obvious that Emma had a contemptuous attitude, and although her surname didn't scream that she was part of the King family bloodline, it was obvious that she was my cousin.

I just don't know why she came back to find me. The more I looked at her, the more angry I became.

"This villa is really luxurious," Emma said. "Does it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars?"

And her gaze landed on the sparkling chandelier.

"Hmm," I said, rolling my eyes. If only she knew it would cost more than that.

I pretended to cater to her needs, but in the end, I found her to be naive and a bit dumb. For a person like her, I had absolutely nothing to talk about with her.

"Why are you here?" Kia grabbed control and sneered at Emma.

I pushed Kia back and gave her a warning glare. She will make the situation worse if she loses control.

Emma looked at me, then her eyes moved around the room, and something crossed her eyes that seemed like greed.

I felt a bit uncomfortable.

"My father said that when I am old I can return to the city, but it seems like he has forgotten about me," she said and sighed helplessly.

I sighed; maybe I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. After all, she is a rural child; she hasn't seen this kind of world.

"I am sorry to tell you this," I said, feeling my heart pinch inside my chest, "but your father died in a car accident."

I wasn't sure how to tell her otherwise.

Emma became quiet, and I continued.

"Since you have no place to stay, you are welcome to stay here for the night," I said after thinking about it for a moment. The chances that she would be able to create trouble on the first night were almost impossible. "I will arrange for a driver to take you back to your pack tomorrow morning.

She nodded.

"Julia," I called, "please arrange a room for Emma for the night."

Julia looked at Emma, then back at me, and slowly nodded her head. She wasn't happy about my request.

Julia indicated for Emma to follow her, and the two headed up the stairs.

I could hear Julia becoming anxious after a couple of doors opened, and I quickly followed to see what was happening.

"Ms. Smit, you'd better choose a different room; this is Luna's room!"

Emma didn't back down, and Julia turned, seeing me coming down the hallway.

I

"Kate, can I stay in your room?" She asked with greed and jealousy, "It's only for one night."

"Did you see that?" Kia asked.

I ignored her and turned toward Julia.

"Put her luggage in my room," I said. "I will rest in the guest room."

"Ms. King..." Julia gasped, shocked.

I slightly smiled and nodded to her, indicating that it was okay, and then headed towards the guest room.

Thinking of the aggressive behavior of this woman just now, I still had this nagging feeling that something was wrong.

I narrowed my eyes; it was definitely not a coincidence.

I never believed in the word coincidence, especially after going through so many things, just like Emma's sudden arrival. There must be a certain reason for her coming here. Was it for money?

Or isn't there a hidden agenda that I still need to expose?
