Chapter 749
Taylor was about to head out when Isaac swiftly caught her hand. "Don't go, or your brother might finish me off for sure!" The way they exchanged looks and playful banter, it was obvious they were caught up in the sweet dance of young love. Chloe suddenly remembered a saying: Eat, sleep, and dream of Taylor. She chuckled at the thought.
That was when Isaac realized they weren't alone. "Oh, hey Chloe."
Isaac was as friendly as ever, hardly noticing the need for formalities. Chloe had been taken in as a goddaughter by the Shaw family elders, but truth be told, she wasn't all that familiar with most of them, except for Winston. Yet, Isaac had a knack for making anyone feel at ease, like they'd known him forever.
Chloe grinned, "Isaac, I never imagined I'd be calling someone younger than me my sister-in-law."
Taylor blushed, a rosy hue spreading across her cheeks.
Isaac, on the other hand, was thrilled. "My sister-in-law's young, so take good care of her, alright?"
Taylor piped up, "I'm perfectly capable, thank you very much. I don't need babysitting."
"Okay, okay, you're the best, the absolute best," Isaac teased.
Watching them, Chloe couldn't help but feel they were like two mice who had stumbled into a honey pot. She quietly slipped away to avoid being the third wheel.
Finding a comfy sofa, Chloe took a breather and, feeling a bit bored, texted Connor about the whole scene she had just witnessed. Connor replied with a shocked emoji, followed by, "Anything else interesting going on?"
As if the world was full of endless excitement. Chloe glanced up and spotted Diana.
Today, Diana wasn't in her
wheelchair. She wore a sleek black dress, and her prosthetic leg, all metal and mechanics, gave her an aura of a futuristic warrior, strangely beautiful in its own way.
Chloe snapped a quick photo and sent it to Connor, wanting him to see how Diana was doing now. Connor's response was immediate and unexpected: "I'm on my way."
Diana scanned the room and quickly zeroed in on Chloe. She made a beeline for her, but Chloe wasn't keen on a chat. She ducked out, heading for the restroom.
Chloe could tell that Diana was brimming with resentment, blaming her for everything that had gone wrong. Chloe thought it best to keep her distance.
Diana had wanted a word with
Chloe, but seeing her slip away, and with her prosthetic making it a bit of a challenge to keep up, she soon lost sight of her. Diana bit her lip, seething.
"Chloe, avoiding me won't solve anything. I'll make sure you pay."
Meanwhile, Edgar was confessing his feelings to Grant. "Boss, I've had a crush on you for ages. Is there any chance for me?"
Grant's face was unreadable, neither showing disdain nor surprise. His response was cool and detached, "No chance."
"But you haven't been with anyone for years. Why not give it a shot with me?"
"I already have someone I like."
Edgar was momentarily stunned. "Is it Y or Z?"
Edgar had always suspected Grant would turn him down, but his curiosity, got the better of him. He knew Grant wasn't interested in men, but he could only guess it might be Miss Y or Miss Z.
Grant's tone was sharp, "That's none of your concern."
With that, Grant exited the scene, only to find Taylor and Isaac caught up in their playful banter once more.
