300 Days With The Alpha Beta Triplets

Chapter IT CAN'T BE

Bella:

The next time I opened my eyes, I saw it was already morning. I pushed my legs off the bed, and just as I was about to stand, the door to my room swung open, and my mother walked in.

"How are you doing this morning?" she asked flatly. I sighed, wondering why she kept acting like she cared.

"I'm alive and kicking, contrary to what you thought," I said, looking her in the eye. Her face was all gloom, but I didn't care. She had made my life a living hell, and whatever it was, I was sure she deserved it. The room fell silent for a moment as I got to my feet, my legs almost giving out beneath me. I stumbled, catching myself with a hand on the bed.

"You should lie down. The doctor will be here any minute now," she said. I rolled my eyes and stood up again.

As I took a step, someone knocked on the door.

"It's Fred, and the doctor is here," he announced. She opened the door at once, revealing a red-haired woman with a briefcase standing beside Alpha Fred.

The woman walked into the room and made her way toward me. I tried to take another step but found myself losing balance again, collapsing onto the bed.

"Great," I muttered aloud.

"Bella, the doctor is here to help you now, and in no time, you'll have your appetite back," Alpha Fred said. I frowned at him. "I'll leave you guys now," he added, and I muttered under my breath, 'You should.'

The doctor examined me, doing a lot of strange things to my body, and then she took out a bottle of medicine, handing it to me.

"Take this and wait about thirty minutes before you eat. Let's see what happens." Reluctantly, I grabbed the bottle from her, poured the liquid into a small cup, and brought it to my nose before downing the entire contents. I winced as the bitterness hit my tongue, but it subsided quickly.

I lay back down on the bed as everyone left my room. I took out my phone and sent a text to the triplets, but they didn't reply, and I soon drifted into a brief slumber.

After a while, I was woken up by a servant who brought food to me. It was soup and a light meal to kick start my stomach. I sat up, savoring the sweet aroma of the dish, then took the spoon lodged in it, scooping the food gently into my mouth until I finished the entire thing.

"How do you feel?" my mother asked. I looked up to see her in her work attire.

She was still at home? This felt like medicine after death, and I wished she would stop with the nice parenting act. "I'm fine," I said flatly. She turned to leave without uttering another word to me.

"Wait about thirty minutes and then give her something solid. I need to get to work," she said to the servant without turning back.

"Great," I muttered. The servant took the empty tray away, leaving me alone with my thoughts. Suddenly, a knock came on the door.

"It's Fred, and I'll be in my study. If you need anything, use the telephone on your nightstand to ring the servants, and they'll come get me," he said. I let out a faint, "okay."

In thirty minutes, I was given toast bread to eat, and my stomach began to rumble in a funny way. I wanted to hold on until the servant left, but when I could no longer take it, I got to my feet, racing to the bathroom, and vomited before I could even reach the toilet.

"I'll get the Alpha," she said, rushing out before I could say a word.

In no time, Alpha Fred was back in my room. I was done throwing up, so I stood still, holding onto my stomach as he approached me, placing his hand on my forehead.

"Your body is heating up. Come with me," he said, taking my hand and leading me out of the room. "Clean this up," he mouthed to the servant.

Alpha Fred took me to my mother's room. He made me lie on the bed, then got me a bag of ice, placing it on my forehead.

"Make yourself comfortable. I'll call your mother right away. Don't forget to ring me if anything happens," he said, and then he left.

I placed my hand on the bag of ice, surveying the entire room, which made me feel like I was floating in an ocean because of its size. As I looked around, curiosity got the best of me, and I felt a sudden urge to search for clues or anything. I was in my mother's bedroom, so there could be information lying around.

I got to my feet, placed the bag of ice on a plate on the nightstand, and began to look around the room, admiring the furniture while trying to find a clue. Suddenly, my phone beeped, startling me.

I checked and saw that Ryder was calling. I picked up at once.

"Hey, how are you?"

"Aside from throwing up my food, I think I'm fine," I said as I made my way to the table.

"Hey, Bella," Finn said. I put the phone on speaker and started opening the drawers in the room. "Your mother asked that no one speak about the incident, or they'll be expelled."

"What an exceptional mother," I said sarcastically.

I searched aimlessly until I came across a framed portrait of my mother in one drawer. It was an old photo of her when she was younger, and the more I stared at it, the more familiar it seemed. The edges on the left looked torn, but it was framed, so I assumed it was a design. But then her hand at the edge was a bit ripped.

Suddenly it clicked, and I grabbed the photo, rushing out of the room and making my way down to the living room. I found one of the portraits of the Alpha, placing it side by side with my mother's photo. I swallowed hard.

"Your mother said we're not allowed to visit you, including Ryder," Finn said just as I whispered, "It can't be." "What can't be?" three voices echoed, one of them belonging to my mother, who was standing right behind me.
