Madison’s head started to spin. “I think you’re studying in the wrong field. You should be doing philosophy instead of life sciences.”

Sebastian sounded exasperated. “Just eat your drumstick!”

“Gladly! Don’t forget, you’re the one who allowed it!” Madison cheered inwardly. Now she could eat until she was completely stuffed.

Sebastian was at a loss for words.

After the meal, Miranda paid the bill. The three didn’t head straight home; instead, they took a walk to help with digestion.

“It’s great that we live in the same direction and not too far apart. Once we get to the campus entrance, let’s grab a cab and split the ride back. Since it’s on the way, we can save money!” Madison suggested.

Sebastian teased, “Aren’t you a landlady? How can you be so stingy about cab fare?”

Back then, she even mentioned giving him a car under a million dollars. Now she was going to great lengths to save on a cab fare of less than ten dollars.

Madison retorted, “So what if I’m a landlady? My money doesn’t grow on trees. My dad has taught me how to value money from a young age despite having lots of it. We should save whenever possible. Spend when we need to, but never waste money!”

Miranda nodded with a smile. “That makes sense.”

“See, look at Miranda. She spent so much money on the lab, but she lives in a simple apartment. You know what that’s called?”

Miranda and Sebastian both looked at her.

Madison puffed out her chest proudly and said, “It’s called knowing your priorities. Money should be spent where it’s needed most!”

Sebastian relented, “Yes, yes. I stand corrected. I’ve learned something today.”

“Hmph! Seb, you’re still naive. You’ve got a lot to learn!”

Sebastian was rendered speechless once more. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks, and the smile on Madison’s face also faded.

“What’s wrong?” Miranda followed their gaze. A second later, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.

A bright yellow Ferrari was parked in front of Bedford College’s main gates. It was impossible not to notice it with the car’s striking color and iconic badge.

However, the man standing beside the car was even more attention–grabbing.

Fortunately, there weren’t many students around the main gates since it was winter break and nearing the big holidays, so Hansel’s presence didn’t cause a huge stir.

Miranda remarked, “Why is Willow still on campus?”

“Miranda, you didn’t know? Sophie required all her graduate students to stay on campus for winter break.”

“Stay on campus? What for? Aren’t her two labs still under rectification?”

Madison answered, “Exactly! She can’t use her labs, and her research projects are stalled. Who knows why she is keeping everyone back.

Miranda remained silent as she continued, “She’s probably miserable herself and doesn’t want her students to have it any better. It’s just being petty and self–defeating. If it were me, I’d have left long ago. Who would listen to her?”

Sebastian chimed in, “You can say that because you have the privilege to do so.”

Madison had to admit that she was fearless, thanks to the backing of her family’s wealth.

Just like Tina, who had reportedly left for home before the competition project was even complete. She never came back to the college after that.

In the end, Yasmine had to submit the project report on her behalf. Tina even got credited as the co–principal investigator for free!
