Chapter 21 What Next?
There was no time to think.
Michael felt the terror closing in from all sides, and everyone else heard the security room door creak open and those heavy footsteps coming from both front and back. They all knew there were only a dozen of them left in the whole school.
So, David, Viktor, Sophia, and the rest were dead sure those footsteps belonged to a ghost.
The ghost was getting closer.
Michael gritted his teeth and, without a second thought, chomped down hard on an eye on his arm.
The searing pain of tearing flesh shot through his body, making his muscles twitch, but he didn't back down.
The intense pain hit, and the red eye on Michael's arm was ripped off by his own teeth.
"Michael," the others turned to look at him when they heard his scream.
Everyone froze, then their faces twisted in fear.
They saw Michael's arm was a bloody mess, blood dripping from his mouth, and his eyes turned blood-red, probably from the blood flow, glowing faintly. His skin was cracking and peeling, making everyone instinctively freak out. The red eye was now squirming under Michael's flesh, leaving a crimson trail, like his body was being torn apart, blood seeping out and staining his clothes.
The pain, this kind of gut-wrenching pain, was way worse than when the Ghost Baby bit him.
And the red eye had already disappeared into his mouth.
However, at the wound on his arm, where the red eye had been bitten off, the flesh wriggled and soon a bigger red eye grew out, filling the wound, looking around with a few creepy glances.
The sixth eye appeared.
As Michael screamed in pain, red light shot out from the cracks in his skin, one, two, three beams, gradually spreading all over his body.
The ground around him was affected too.
The red light spread along the ground like thick fog, clashing with the surrounding dense darkness.
At that moment, a line of words appeared on the parchment again.
"At 5:30 AM, after swallowing an eye, I grew a sixth eye. The eerie red light came from my body, and I could feel that the area covered by the red light was the Ghost Realm, my Ghost Realm. But I found out that the ghost inside me was constantly reviving. I might soon be possessed by the ghost, lose consciousness, and become a ghost."
"As I opened the Ghost Realm, other ghosts nearby came, and someone got killed by ghosts.]
As if to confirm the words on the parchment, a pale hand reached out from the darkness, suddenly grabbing the neck of a trembling classmate.
The cold, stiff hand, with terrifying force, yanked the classmate into the darkness behind.
"No, help, save me," the classmate screamed frantically, waving his hands, trying to grab something.
But it was useless.
He quickly vanished into the darkness, and his screams faded away, like a stone dropped into water, causing only a ripple before everything went back to calm. The others turned pale with fear.
Seeing this, none of them dared to pull the classmate back; they were too scared.
Marco was already bawling his eyes out, totally losing it, and just bolted, not caring where, as long as he could get the hell outta there.
But as soon as he turned, he smacked right into a stiff corpse.
The old man covered in corpse spots stood in the darkness, staring at him with dead eyes, no human emotion, just pure creepiness.
Marco wanted to run again but found himself frozen in place.
The old man slowly raised his withered hand, reaching for Marco's face.
A blood-curdling scream echoed before everything went black.
"Stop, get out, don't come near me!" A girl, her hair a mess, hugged her head and shrank to the side, her eyes wide with terror, her mind already shattered from the fear. Even if she made it out, she'd probably end up in a psych ward.
Viktor had no strength left to run, sitting paralyzed on the ground, scared out of his mind.
Aria squatted on the ground, covering her ears, burying her face in her knees, crying and shaking.
Sophia clung tightly to one of Michael's arms, almost curling up entirely in his embrace, not finding Michael scary at all right now. She was more terrified of the ghosts lurking in the darkness. Maybe because a few classmates had already bit the dust, the surrounding ghosts seemed to chill for a bit.
But the darkness had them surrounded, and it was eerily quiet, not even a peep.
However, this creepy silence didn't last long.
Soon, footsteps echoed in the darkness again.
This time, it wasn't just one set of footsteps, but several.
From the front, the back, all around.
At that moment, pale hands reached out one after another from the darkness, one hand resting on David's shoulder, another grabbing a girl's hair, another clutching Aria's ankle. Everyone was getting attacked by the ghosts. The time on the phone showed 5:30 AM.
Just like the parchment said, at 5:30 AM, everyone died.
"Get away," a suppressed, painful roar sounded, carrying a desperate struggle for survival.
Michael stood up, his skin cracking, revealing eyes hidden within the cracks, while red light emanated from his body, covering an area of about 16 feet around him.
The red light lit up the surroundings, pushing back the darkness.
The pale hands quickly pulled back.
The old man covered in corpse spots took a step back, leaving the area covered by the red light, staring at Michael with a blank expression.
The old man paused for a moment but then took a step forward again.
He stepped into the area covered by the red light once more.
However, the red light on Michael's body flickered like a dying light bulb, then vanished.
Along with the disappearance of the red light, Michael, Sophia, David, Viktor, and the others also vanished.
The old man approached, but the place was already empty.
The footsteps around gradually faded away.
The security room door beside them slammed shut again.
The darkness receded like a tide.
On the parchment, a line of words appeared again, "At 5:30 AM, everyone died, that was impossible."
"At 5:31 AM, I survived, a total of eight of us, I left the school."
A weird smiley face appeared on the parchment but quickly disappeared again.
