Chapter Chnapter 619
Chapter 0619
I turned around and quietly looked at Nicholas.
While my mind was in turmoil, he had already wrapped his arms around me from behind. "Don't listen to him. How could anything be wrong with you?"
"Yes, yes," the doctor stammered, standing abruptly and apologizing. Beads of sweat glistened on his forehead, but he didn't dare wipe them.
"Nicholas," I said his name with mild disapproval, gently squeezing his hand. "It's possible."
Nicholas froze slightly as I held onto him, his imposing demeanor easing. He looked at me, a little perplexed." What's possible?"
I didn't answer him directly. Instead, I stood up and turned to the doctor.
"I'm sorry for his outburst. When it comes to Tabitha, he gets a bit emotional. Please don't take it to heart."
The doctor repeatedly said he didn't mind. But his feet shuffled back until they hit the edge of his desk, forcing him to stop.
I turned around and saw Nicholas' dark eyes filled with a menacing gaze. Under his oppressive gaze, the doctor couldn't help but be nervous.
"I'll say it again, my wife and I will not have a second child for this reason. Understand?"
Nicholas shot one last warning glance at the doctor before turning his head away in haughty defiance.
I sighed. "Nicholas, but what if I wanted to?"
It wasn't the first time the thought had crossed my mind. Before, there simply wasn't anyone suitable, but things had changed now. Since reuniting with Nicholas, the idea had quietly lingered.
We had tried everything to help Tabitha, but nothing worked. Her condition even worsened after an argument between Nicholas and me.
If this could help her, wasn't it worth considering?
Leaving Nicholas and having another child with him were both rational thoughts, but the two ideas were contradictory. I had been stuck in a stalemate until now.
Nicholas stared at me, his intense gaze laced with emotions I couldn't quite decipher. But he was clearly displeased.
The doctor hesitated and said, "Then perhaps today, we could begin with a preliminary check for Mr. Hawk. Mrs. Hawk's examination would require fasting and can be scheduled later in the morning."
Nicholas looked at me coldly. His voice was oppressive as he said, "Get out!"
"Yes, of course. I'll leave you both to discuss this."
Although he was looking at me, no one would think he was saying this to me. The doctor scrambled out of the room, shutting the door behind him within seconds.
Once we were alone, Nicholas's icy demeanor melted away. He sank onto the couch, resting his elbows on his knees and lowering his head in silence.
I walked over and sat beside him, but he didn't react. The room fell into a heavy silence.
I had never told Nicholas this idea before, and it came up very suddenly today because of Tabitha's evaluation. Logically, considering we were divorced, it felt presumptuous to discuss having another child with him.
I wanted to explain, but I wasn't sure what to say or even how to justify myself. I didn't understand why he seemed
so conflicted. After all, I was the one who'd bear the child. He just needed to contribute his genes.
I couldn't just say to him, 'It's not like you're the one who's going to suffer!
Just as I was hesitating, Nicholas suddenly looked up at me. There was a faint red around his dark eyes, making him look both vulnerable and helpless.
"Ariana, what do you think of me? A sperm donor? I never thought you would treat me like this! If this is what you've decided, then what were all those times I restrained myself around you for? What did any of it mean?"
