Chapter Warrior 136
MIRO
It took me an hour and sixteen minutes to clean up all traces of something happening. Thanks to the professional cleaning services the Elite organization hires for situations like these, every single spot was clean and the good surviving men were sent to the clinic while the poisoned ones were sent to a holding facility.
Getting on my power bike, I raced back to the Lunar Hall and on my way in, two elegant women from the lower class winked at me. Looking for a suitable alibi so my brother won't suspect anything, I walked into the hall with two of them by my side. Everyone already knew me as a womanizing playboy, so it was easy to wear that persona especially now that I needed a front to keep with Theon and his witch.
When I entered the hall, the first thing I noticed was one of the most amazing scents I have ever heard. It smelt like coconut candy, apple pies and all the delicacies in the world. I wondered if it was the food served that permeated the air but then my wolf perked up and became restless.
"Mate! I found mate!" He impressed on my subconscious and the moment that happened, I excused myself from the girls. Like a man stranded in a desert, hoping for water, I went through the crowd, searching.
My heart began to race at the possibility of actually finding my mate.
Is this it? Is this finally my chance to be happy? What does she look like? Who cares. Will she like me back?
Then I slowed in my steps as I found her.
Dressed like a dream come true, swirling in the arms of another man, her gaze was directed at someone else and when I traced it, I discovered it was my brother.
Like a sledgehammer to the heart, I suffered a deep seated haunting pain that I had buried and coped with for so long.
How can my wolf deceive me yet again and call Ryn my mate?
Is he blind? Daft? Stupid?!
Can't he see that she's-
"She's what?" My wolf impressed upon my mind.
"That she's in love with my brother."
"If you had been less of an asshole, she might have been in love with you too."
Angered, I turned away from the sights of them, and went straight for the bar. After ordering a strong drink, I swallowed it in one go and asked for another. Running a hand through my hair, I remembered what Healer Kwan said about my wolf choosing suitable women for mates.
Ryn cannot be mine.
If anything, she seems perfect for my brother.
"I thought you said you would stop fighting what you feel for her?" My wolf asked.
Instead of answering, I downed another drink. What is it that I even feel for her?
Turning around with the third glass of tequila in hand, finding her in the crowd was easy. The dance was over and now, she was chatting heartily with Sadie. She laughed, and a certain sense of curiosity was born within me.
Why is she in such a good mood?
Is it because of that foolish guy who danced with her?
Speaking of, where the fuck is he?
I searched the crowd and saw him beaming to himself as he went to get drinks. I think I recognize him from school. He used to be a bum now.
The intent is never pure.
I downed my drink, feeling my anger rise as I made my way to them.
"I heard she lived with the Winderemere twins." The five feet eleven blonde idiot yapped mid-conversation and when his collegues saw me coming behind him, they signalled to him to stop. Blondie got the message and turned around in time to see me. "Whoa! If it isn't Miro the shark." The idiot grinned, "What's up, brother." He extended his hand to me but I didn't oblige. Sensing my hostility, he took some steps back, letting his hand fall.
"What's up, Ro?" Another colleague; a dark skinned guy asked. "You good?"
"Yeah. I'm fine." I smiled, "I thought I heard my name being mentioned?" I looked at the idiot who chuckled.
"We were just talking about that babe right there." He looked over at where Ryn stood now having a conversation with some socialites. "She's a stunning piece of ass-"
"She's off limits." Someone said and I raised my eyes to Theon standing a few feet away with a glass in his hand. I blinked in surprise, considering he was supposed to hate Ryn.
"Come on." One of the guys said. "You've got a woman now and you," He motioned to me, "aren't looking to settle yet so why are you gatekeeping her? Is she really that good of a lay?"
I ground my jaw in anger. "Ryn is not a whore. She's a decent girl and neither of us have slept with her."
The men burst into cackles.
"You simply want us to believe that in all the times she stayed with you two, alone in that house, you watched her sweet piece of ass walk around and did not hit?"
"Yes." I replied and they cackled again.
"Yeah right." The blonde idiot frowned. "Just say you don't want to share her."
I opened my mouth to object one more time but instead my brother beat me to it.
"Actually, yes. We don't."
I looked at him like he was crazy.
"What are you doing?" I mindlinked him but he did not respond.
"So what are you saying?" One of the guys asked. "Are you like claiming her?"
"Yes." He said, his cold attic blue eyes revealing nothing but predatory intent. "Ryn is ours. So back off!"
