Chapter 2096
It was much better in the tunnel than the cave, as it was walled on both ends with stark white marbles. The stairs were not overgrown with moss from the damp air inside-if anything, it was completely smooth and clean as if it was never damp here! "It seems that people often used this tunnel," Frank said, putting his foot down before accelerating to an intersection.
"Which one should I take?"
Alda shook her head again. "I only remember what the cave and the tomb looked like. I don't know how to reach the tomb from the cave!"
Frank nodded and stood at the center as he closed his eyes, allowing his hearing to extend further.
Hearing the breeze in each tunnel and judging that the breeze was louder on the left, he decided that it was the right path.
"Whatever. I choose you!"
Still carrying Alda on piggyback, Frank took the left tunnel.
The further he progressed, the narrower the tunnel became. The walls were not tiled with white marble either, and it was natural limestone dripping with cool droplets.
That was when Frank suddenly paused. "Prepare yourself!"
"Huh?!"
Alda did not even have time to realize what was happening when they heard an eerie screeching ahead.
Then, the ground started to shake, and she lost her composure for once and screamed.
That was not the end, as she could see countless shadows suddenly scuttering ahead.
She flashed her flashlight in that direction... and saw that those were all giant rats! "Argh!!!" she screamed on top of her lungs, as she had never seen anything like that!
"I told you to prepare yourself!"
Frank chuckled and kicked the tunnel wall just then.
Endless pebbles started raining down, and Frank volleyed each away, launching them like bullets through the air. Each found a rat, knocking the rats to keep them from getting too close! Alda was left gaping-was he actually human? Those were some ridiculous moves!
Still, that also meant she had chosen the right man-not only was Frank accomplished in medicine, but he was also an accomplished martial artist. He was most probably one of a kind in existence! FindNovel
At the same time, Frank launched a rock through the air, clearing the path ahead. He was curious as to why those rats were swarming out of nowhere.
If they were scrambling for air after being caught in a sealed space for a long time, then Frank's theory that people often used this tunnel would not make sense. But what other reason could there be?
Frank had no idea but put aside theorizing for the moment and continued ahead.
After a few more paces, they arrived at a downward slope that went down over 1,500 feet.
Once they got down it, they found themselves in a chamber, though it was more appropriate to call it a beehive. There were over six levels, and within each level was up to forty compartments separated by a thin membrane.
Each compartment was six feet tall and five feet apart-just enough to fit a person.
Seemingly sensing the presence of people, the membrane began to shine in an emerald sheen like a firefly.
"That's the tomb in your dreams?
Which king had a tomb like this?"
Frank asked, feeling like there was a
mistake as he reached out to touch
the membrane while shifting the
weight on his back. FindNovel
Alda did not seem to hear him, however. Her eyes seemed blank and transfixed on the bottom of the chamber.
Frank followed her stare to find a stone table on the bottom clearing, where something so tiny was shining, but it was too small for him to make out what it was! "H-He's calling for me! I need to reach him!"
Alda began to flail as she attempted to get off Frank's back, but Frank struck her acupoint, knocking her out.
Impressive but something that could affect a normal person's psyche this much could not be good.
Still carrying Alda, Frank leapt downward, landing steadily on the bottom and walked up to the stone table.
That was when Frank saw what it really was: a ring!
It was quite crude in craftsmanship, however, as the body was made of sheet metal embedded with a gem filled with cracks.
So that was what had been shining!
At the same time, Alda said despite having passed out, "Pick me up..."
