The Daemon’s Eyes

Chapter CHAPTER 27

Durindo,

16th March, 2027.

Richard sat quietly filling up some documents. It wasn't an easy job being in charge of a construction company. Sure... He didn't have to do any dirty work but just signing property review and survey documents was as boring as hell. There was a loud knock on the door causing him to sit-up straight.

"Richard my boy!", Mr Vermillion called out as the door flew open.

Mr Whyte Vermillion was a stockholder in the company. He was a wealthy man in his mid fifties and also quite the talker.

And as annoying as he could get, Richard had never been able to find a reason to kill him. Well... Other than the fact that he was impossible to have a conversation with!

His secretary had tried to block the hyperactive old man from entering the room. "Please sir..". Her voice was low and pleading.

Sadly, she was no match for his powerful shove. "Get out of my way!". He was often rude to those he saw as 'below him' or 'beneath his class'.

Richard shook his head, he was just another rich snob.

"How may I help you, sir?", He tried to sound like he cared.

"I just passed by your house. The design... the land mass... the luxurious aura about it was simply marvellous". He smiles wildly. "And no matter how many times I see it, it always looks superb!"

He managed a light smile although he wasn't pleased with this disturbance.

"You should invite me and the wife over sometime". He holds onto the door knob in attempt to catch his breath, he was a plus sized man. "Margret would love it!"

Richard rolls his eyes. "Someday...", He added sarcastically. "Is that all you wanted to say?".

He smiles laughing loudly. "I guess that's all....", He turns to leave. "Ohh... I almost forgot". He starts heading towards Richard's desk, reaching into his back pocket. "I tried to convince them... But they forced me to..". Narrowing his eyes. 'Was he reaching for a gun?', Richard panicked trying to get up slowly.

"I mean... No hard feelings, but it has to be done", he was now looking down on Richard frowning. "Here you go... He brings out a letter.

Relaxing a bit. "What's this?"

"An invitation... To Donatelli Franchester's boat cruise", he frowns.

Richard could help but wonder if Mr Vermillion had known about their past history to have been unwilling to invite him....

'No!... Nobody knew!

He'd made sure to wipe out all information about the death of his mother.... As far as people know, he was an orphanage with no origin. But still... He needed to confirm. "So... What's the problem?"

"It's only for couples. And I know how cold you can be toward women so I don't expect you to be getting married anytime soon". He laughs. "Donatelli is turning sixty. And I heard he owns the only flying yatch in the world!...". He turns to leave with a wave. "It's in six months though... So you have enough time to think about it"

The door being slammed brings Richard back to his senses. His archenemy throws a party and now it's only for married people?!

Cupping his chin. "Smart thinking Don..", he laughs out. "But that won't stop me!...". He keeps laughing before taking up the phone by his left.

Dialing the secretary.

"Sir?..."

"You're fired.."

"But sir... I..."

He cuts the call before getting up to face the glass wall behind his seat. "Where are you... My little Juliet". Laughing mischievous wondering how sad that Juliet would be to marry him. Other than his money and looks... He was a horrible conversationalist and constantly accused of having no sense of humour.

So he had to marry someone within the next few months so he could attend the birthday party? It was easy, but divorcing immediately would be too suspicious.

"I'll have to be with her for a year or two after", he cupped his chin wondering if he could find a quiet lady that wouldn't drive him to bankruptcy.

There was another knock at the door. Grumbling a bit, "what is it!?"

The door creaked open halfway."Sir... I'm really sorry... It.."

"Do you feel like dying today?", He asks with frightening calmness, without taking his eyes off her.

"No sir.."

"Then don't tempt me..."

She turns to leave without another word.

Heading to his desk, he dials the receptionist on the first floor.

"Sir?"

"I need a new secretary, Misha". He frowns.

"I'll get to it..". She ends the call.

"Ughh...", He sighs. That was going to be the third this month!.... And they'd all lost their jobs because of Mr Vermillion and his constant Intrusions! These days... He didn't even bother to remember their names anymore...

"Maybe I shouldn't have fired her?...", He cups his chin before waving it off.

Suddenly... Feeling a strange urge to kill...

For the past ten years... He'd always felt an urge to spill blood whenever he got too worked up...

And whenever it got too untamed... Another side took over... Like he was simply being possessed...

Slapping his forehead. "I need to go home..". He managed to pack a few documents into his briefcase before heading towards the door.

It might have still been early in the afternoon, but he didn't feel like he could stay at work again.

If the other him was to take over... He could just go on killing sprees!

The normal Richard was a levelheaded thinker, cold, hot tempered but calm attimes... and responsible..

His second side which he often called, 'the other side', was more of a do-er than a thinker, and he had an insatiable appetite for women and liquor. Simply put.... the other side was everything he hated.
