Chapter CHAPTER 24
*********
Sabrina's P.O.V
Logan made known to me that I wouldn't be able to return to my body if seventy-two hours had passed. He also said he was going to check around elsewhere incase my body got possessed by some other spirit.
I, on the other hand was tasked with checking Jasper and father since they were the only two people had could likely have entered my room.
Jasper had been in a deep discussion with his father so I hurriedly checked all the rooms.
After that, I hurried back home in wait of Logan and my father's return. All this while, my heart had been pounding in my chest.
I didn't want to die.... I really didn't.....
I was pacing about the house when I noticed a dirty plate in the living area. Father was strict about never leaving dirty plates anywhere but the sink.
My eyes moved to the wall clock. It was almost 9pm and father wasn't home yet?
I floated to his room to check, unconsciously gasping at the sight before me.
It was father's suit and tie at one edge of the bed, there was no day he went out without a tie....
"Maybe he got home and wanted to me out for dinner?"
Meals were literally the only periods we had conversation. "Logan!". I called out although I knew he could be far away.
"Logan!!", I called out again tugging at my hair.
The loud ringing of the church bell pierced my heart.
It had already been two days since the incident, and Logan never came back.
Heartbroken didn't even begin to describe the way I felt.
Father didn't waste time to plan a funeral in a church.
I took a step through the closed doors and the sight before me tore at my soul, some tears drops escaped my eyelids.
There were only three people at my funeral. The pastor, father and Jasper.
I tried to convince myself that my father might have chosen not to make it known to the public so suddenly. Knowing him, he'd probably move out of town to start over. "Tchhh!", my fists tightened. I couldn't help but wonder how Jasper had found out about the funeral service...
He sat two rows to the last, while father sat on the first row in a black suit.
I took some steps towards the altar as the priest uttered some words of prayers.
It didn't take long before I stood before my lifeless body in a coffin. My right arm moved to touch it, but it was like the body repelled me.
There was some sniffling noise from behind me and I turned to see my father sobbing profusely.
I'd always thought he won't care if I died, given the way he treated me. It touched my heart to see him she's tears for me.
My knees fell to the floor as I broke down in tears. There was a pat on my shoulder, "Logan please leave me alone..!", I shrugged it off in annoyance.
"Sabrina...", a soft female voice called from behind.
I turned to see a familiar face....
We'd never met, but I knew that face like the back of my palm. Those red eyes....
"M... mum?"
She nodded before kneeling to hug me.
More tears rolled down my cheeks. "How??!...what??...why?!...", I squeezed her tightly, never wanting to let go.
"Phew! I see we made it in time", I looked to Logan who was standing behind mum.
Mum was crying too. "I always wanted to see you, you've grown into such a beautiful lady". She placed both hands on my shoulder to get a good look of my face. "Why couldn't I see you before!?", I'd began to wipe my tears.
"You can't see a past owner of the eye, unless you actually die", she got up, "I sent Logan her to watch over you". Logan waved.
Those words made me jump to my feet. "Wtf!... Logan..why didn't you tell me all this time?!", Couldn't hide my displeasure.
He stroked his chin a bit, "I had my reasons?!"
"Calm down",mum spoke up, "I made him promise not to. I didn't want you to worry since you couldn't see me".
I sighed.
"I want you to promise me something..?", she began.
"Anything!"
"Make up with your father, he's a good man", she he's both my hands in hers. "He's suffered a lot! He discarded his family name and inheritance to marry someone like me. He needs to be loved" "But he's been everything but nice to me!", I frowned.
"He'll change", she smiled.
"Fine! But I'm still dead!", I pointed at lifeless body before the altar.
"Remember chapter 2 of the forbidden pages?".
Unconsciously cupping my chin. "Body sharing?". Mum nodded.
"But it had some incantations I couldn't translate"
She laughed, "who said anything about you reciting that? Give me your hands"
We both joined hands beside the coffin.
She started reciting some words.
"Wait! Won't you disappear forever if you do this? They wrote that only one spirit could remain in the body?"
She paused to reply me. "There's no future for me in the underworld. I'd rather sacrifice myself for you"
I pulled my hands away. "I just got to see you! I can't!"
"So stubborn", she shook her head before walking up to rest her forehead on mine. "I love you so much, and I've watched over you as much as I could for some years now. Please be good to your father"
I cried again before she took my arms in hers. She once again began reciting some words in another language.
At a point, it felt like the body was pulling us in....
"Tell your dad.... I love him", she smiled before we both got sucked into the body.
For a second, nothing happened....
I felt like I'd been drowning for a moment, before I suddenly sat up gasping for air...
"Jesus Christ!!?". The pastor howled out making both Jasper and my dad jump to their feet.
As I attempted to get out of the coffin, my legs felt wobbly like jelly. Luckily, father.... I mean, dad... caught me before I fell over.
I caught a glimpse of Jasper some feet behind him looking like his jaw was going to drop from his face.
I waved at him.
"Mum said I should tell you she loves you". I smiled genuinely.
He hugged me tight and by the time he let go, Jasper ran to hug me.
Dad cleared his throat and we both jumped apart before laughing.
Then my eyes searched around. Where was Logan?!
I found myself ignoring everyone else and running towards the door with my gown in my hand. "Logan!". I called out to him in the distance with a wave. "Thanks so much for everything!!". He nodded lightly without turning back.
"Where will you go now?"
He paused without turning around. "Wherever the wind takes me, I guess"
Jasper had come out to meet me, "who was that?", he looked around.
"Ohh... just a friend". I smiled tiptoeing to peck his lips.
"Thank you, Sabrina". Logan's voice came as a gentle whisper with the breeze.
