The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 74 Normal Pursuit

Michael's head was pounding after hearing her words. He'd been on a plane for over ten hours, then drove straight to the city without a break. Sophia's accusations were the last thing he needed. He was annoyed but didn't want to argue. All he cared about was finding out where Emily was and what had happened. Trying to keep his cool, he said, "Sophia, you know I hate repeating myself. Hand over 'Lucky"."

Seeing the anger simmering in Michael's eyes, Sophia didn't dare to push back. She knew how much that hairpin meant to him. If she didn't give it to him now, their relationship would be over for good.

Sophia was fuming at Michael and even more at Emily. Reluctantly, she turned around, picked up the box she had thrown on the ground, and handed it to Michael.

Michael watched her pick up the box from the floor, his anger flaring. He knew Emily had been here. Without even opening the box, he huffed, "Sophia, I warned you last time not to push your luck. I can cover for you once or twice, but three times is too much. I thought you were smarter than this. This is your final warning; there won't be another." With that, he stormed out of the club.

Michael called out, "Andrew, check the club's surveillance. I need to know where Emily went."

Andrew jumped up to take care of it. Michael sat in the back seat of the car, rolling down the window. The night breeze helped ease his headache a bit. He carefully opened the box, only to find the once beautiful hairpin now dismantled, lying there like a broken flower.

He clenched his fists, closing the lid without another look. This hairpin was supposed to be safely delivered to Emily, but now it was ruined because of a misunderstanding. Andrew came back with bad news: Emily had been taken to the hospital by Daniel.

Hearing this, Michael immediately ordered the driver to head to the hospital. The car sped through the night streets.

Emily had been scared by a few people, causing her stomach to cramp and resulting in pain. After examining her, the doctor recommended she stay in the hospital for observation, especially since she was pregnant and being frightened was no small matter.

She was never in great health. Just as she had recovered, she was back in the hospital again.

Emily was awake, leaning against the headboard, her gaze empty, and the swelling on her face painfully obvious.

Daniel saw that Emily was down and seemed uninterested in everything. He was supposed to be on duty tonight, but he got a call from Emily. In the phone, she had explained what happened and asked him to meet her outside. Emily hadn't wanted to bother Daniel, but she was too scared to go alone. Daniel hadn't expected to find her already hurt when he arrived, and he couldn't hold back, using Rhys's connections to help.

Looking at Emily, hospitalized again, he felt nothing but heartache and helplessness. Emily was like a resilient weed, trying to bloom but constantly battered by storms. Seeing her pale and helpless face, he sighed, poured her a glass of water, and handed it to her. "Emily, I think you should report this to the police."

Emily was taken aback for a moment, then shook her head and said, "Sophia still has my hairpin, and they didn't really hurt me. Even if I report it, the police won't do anything."

Daniel replied, "Don't worry, Emily. If you report it, I promise someone will take care of it."

Emily looked at him, feeling genuinely touched. When those people cornered her in the private room and forced her to kneel, she desperately wished someone would save her. She thought of everyone she could, but realized that besides Daniel and Abigail, no one else would come to her rescue.

But Abigail was just a girl, and before going to the club, she hadn't called Abigail but had called Daniel instead. She knew it was a bit pathetic, and she was always aware of Daniel's feelings for her, but she could only pretend not to know, because she couldn't reciprocate.

So, no matter what, she felt somewhat guilty. She could only say blandly, "Daniel, thank you so much for this, but please don't tell Michael."

Daniel understood what Emily meant. She was fearing that Michael would protect Sophia again. Emily felt numb and no longer heartbroken. She said, "Daniel, I want to be alone for a while."

Daniel didn't say anything more and quietly left the room. He hadn't expected that as soon as he stepped out, he would see Michael striding towards him. When Michael reached the room's door, he saw Daniel coming out, and his expression immediately changed. Daniel also looked grim seeing Michael.

In the end, Daniel stopped him and said coldly, "Michael, if you can't protect Emily, at least don't hurt her, okay?"

Michael was infuriated by Daniel's words and sneered. "Daniel, remember your place. You're talking to her husband. Do you think that's appropriate?"

Daniel thought for a moment and said, "What? I'm just pursuing her normally, Mr. Smith. Why are you so angry?"

Michael laughed in anger, "Pursue her normally? She's not divorced yet. Do you want to be the third wheel?" Daniel retorted, "Aren't you two getting divorced?"

Michael didn't respond, just coldly stared at Daniel. "Yes. But as long as I haven't signed the papers, she's still my wife. You have no right to stand by her side." With that, Michael pushed Daniel away and reached out for the doorknob. But Daniel grabbed his shoulder and said, "She's not in a good mood right now. I suggest you don't see her."

Michael paused in his action to open the door and asked, "What's wrong with her? Is she okay?"

Daniel still looked grim. "If you want to know how Emily ended up in the hospital, ask your mistress. She needs rest now. Don't upset her."

Michael coldly interrupted, "Are you done?" Not wanting to hear Daniel's nagging, Michael turned and pushed open the door to the room, seeing Emily leaning against the bed, not resting.

He hadn't seen her for several days. Before his business trip, he and Emily had parted on bad terms. He had been so angry that he thought about not returning and just divorcing her. But now, seeing her pale and weak appearance, he couldn't bring himself to ask for the divorce. She seemed to have lost weight in just a few days. Had she not been eating?
