Chapter 195 –
'How dare you doubt that I'm a real tiger!' Simba pondered. It shook its tail and realized Pierce was no longer cute.
Pierce scowled. He took a piece of beef jerky from the table and placed it in Simba's mouth to verify the tiger's authenticity. "Then eat it, little tiger!"
Simba was desperate to break free from this kid's grip, but it was too weak. It felt so wrong.
Simba waved his front paws in the air just as Ivy was about to assist.
I cannot eat! I'm a phony tiger..."
A child shattered Simba's dignity as a ferocious tiger. It shook its fur and lay speechless in Pierce's arms, staring angrily at Ivy.
'Mama did nothing to help me.'
Ivy ate quietly and bowed her head. She tried her best to hide her awkwardness because Marco had previously expressed interest in her.
It was awkward because the two adults didn't say anything about what had happened before, but Marco would occasionally place dishes on Ivy and Pierce's plates with care.
Ivy also felt Marco's lingering gaze on her. She had no choice but to act as if nothing had happened.
Ivy was sent home by the father and son team after dinner.
Pierce was so exhausted that he dozed off in the car.
Ivy stepped out of the car, Simba in her arms.
Marco brought out the box for her and apologized to her.
"Pierce is still unaware that white chrysanthemums are bereavement flowers. I'll make sure to instruct him the next time properly."
Ivy laughed. "It's fine. Children have no malicious intent."
Marco's grin was a little loose. "Do you want roses next time?" He was weighing his options.
In an instant, Ivy grasped Marco's meaning. Roses were intended for lovers. "I'd rather have cactus."
A cactus that repels humans.
Marco laughed, raising an eyebrow and bowed his head. "OK, I'm good at accommodating, people's preferences."
In the meantime, at Hudson Yards. Wyatt had just returned when the husky pounced on him.
Wyatt swatted it away with his cane, irritated. "Isn't Duke already back? How come he didn't take it away?"
Jimmy chased after the dog with a bowl of dog food. "Mrs. Elrod returned, but she did not like the dog, so Mr. Elrod asked us to keep it here for the time being."
"I dislike it as well!" Wyatt's expression was cold and sullen.
'Duke is always causing me problems!'
He took out his phone to call Duke and sat in frustration.
Duke answered the phone.
"Are you out of the game, Wyatt?"
"What exactly do you mean?"
"Ivy and Marco took Marco's son to a Five Star restaurant for dinner. They even reserved the venue and appeared to be a cute little family of three."
Wyatt's sharp eyes sank at the same time.
The aura around him was freezing.
"Are they still there?" His voice was suppressing an outburst of rage.
"They all went out together."
Duke wanted to say a few more words, but Wyatt lost his temper and abruptly hung up the phone. It was direct.
Wyatt's eyes were filled with rage.
Jimmy carried the husky over with trepidation. He clearly heard that conversation. "Mr. Reed..."
Wyatt's expression was solemn. "I don't care how you do it. Summon Ivy."
Jimmy was well aware of his failure as a matchmaker. Wyatt and Ivy, unfortunately for him, were not ordinary people. "I-I don't..." Wyatt's cold eyes swept over Jimmy before he could finish his sentence. "Do you believe you've lived a long enough life?"
Jimmy abruptly altered his words. "I have no objections to that."
Wyatt entered the study upstairs.
Jimmy sat on the floor, defeated. 'Mr. Reed is terrifying! I guess he's usually thought to be easygoing!'
Jimmy frantically pulled out his phone and sobbed while calling Ivy. "Ms. Morgan, Mr. Reed fell down the stairs."
Ivy was about to fall asleep when she got a call from Jimmy. She panicked, grabbed her keys, and bolted. When she thought about Wyatt limping, she felt guilty. She feared that she would owe him for the rest of her life if his leg never recovered due to her actions. Bill drove, so the twenty-minute trip took only ten minutes.
They arrived in a flash at Hudson Yards. Jimmy greeted Ivy in a panic as soon as she walked in. Mr. Reed fell down the stairs, Ms. Morgan. He's feverish and now unconscious!"
Ivy furrowed her brows. When she heard this, her heart thumped. "Did you consult with a doctor?"
Jimmy froze and then spoke up. "Yes... The doctor was involved in an accident on the way, so he will be delayed for some time."
Ivy entered Wyatt's room and discovered the man on the bed. His face was pale, and he had beads of sweat on his brow. He appeared to be suffering from a fever.
The husky circled the bed, chewing on the side of his cane.
Ivy scowled. 'How did he get a fever after falling? Was it really that serious?'
Jimmy was nervous and jittery. "What should we do, Ms. Morgan? Mr. Reed can only be comfortable in you, so you can't leave now."
Ivy made contact. A large hand clutched her wrist as soon as she touched his brow.
Wyatt's eyes opened, dark and deep with a hint of weakness. He appeared frail and confused, but his grip was firm.
Ivy was unable to free herself. She smirked.
"Ivy, do you still care about me?" His voice was audible, frail, and anticipatory.
Ivy gave him a calm look. "I'm responsible for your leg injury, so I'm not going to sit idly by."
Wyatt's eyes became darker. His lips were pressed together in a straight line. His expression softened.
"Good. I'm at ease here with you."
'That way, I won't have to consider what you and Marco are discussing?' Wyatt reflected himself. He quickly closed his eyes to conceal the glint of hatred in them. Nobody seemed to notice.
Jimmy was holding ice and towels on the side, looking perplexed. "Ms. Morgan, Mr. Reed must cool down so that he does not burn up."
Ivy nodded. She was about to give way to Jimmy when he handed her the items.
"Oh, the doctor was in an accident on the way, so I have to pick him up right now!" He then ran out without saying anything else because he was afraid of being yelled at.
Ivy frowned as she looked at the expressionless Bill in the corner.
Bill simply nodded. His tall figure approached slowly.
"Please, Miss, allow me..." A hand tightly clutched Ivy's wrist before she could nod. She was taken aback.
Wyatt fought to open his eyes. His expression was complicated and unattractive. "There's no need. Nothing is wrong with me. I don't need to lower my temperature. I don't want anyone else to touch me." By the end of the sentence, he had locked his gaze on Bill. His deep gaze held an unfathomable annoyance.
'I didn't get what I wanted because of him!'
Wyatt couldn't do anything to Bill because he was Ivy's bodyguard.
Bill didn't even look at Wyatt because he only followed Ivy's orders.
Ivy paused for a few seconds before nodding to Bill.
"It's fine. Why don't you go with Jimmy?"
Bill nodded, turned, and walked away.
Only Ivy and Wyatt remained in the room.
There was a gentle silence in the room. Ivy picked up the ice and towel unknowingly. "I'll help you."
