Secret Scion

Chapter 182 -

"Who else? Huxley, of course," Layla said in an angry tone. “Grandpa, I didn't do anything to

him. Why does he have to make my work so much harder? He's obviously harassing me! He has to give me an explanation this time or he'll never hear the end of this!"

When Solomon heard that it was Huxley, the smile on his face slowly disappeared. With a frown, he asked, "Be concise. What happened?"

Then, Layla explained everything about what happened. In the end, she said with a sob, "Yes, he's the future patriarch of the Crawfords. I admit that he's very talented and also has the right to do whatever he wants, but he can't harass me out of nowhere, right? I'm still his cousin, after all. Also, there's also the thing with the wine last time... Let's not talk about that. Grandpa, he's your grandson, and I'm your granddaughter too. You must deal with this fairly. Otherwise, I'm going to stay in the Crawfords in protest."

When Solomon saw how Layla was playing the cute card, he was not sure whether he should laugh or cry. "Even if you want to stay in our residence forever, I have no objections to that." Layla walked over and then held and shook Solomon's arm. "Grandpa, now you're just being unfair. Are you saying that because I'm a Knight and he's a Crawford so you love him more? Grandpa, if that's how you really think, I'm going to get even angrier."

"Ha! Here you are complaining to your grandpa again." It was at this time Huxley's mother came in. She knew that Layla would come looking for Solomon, and things went just as she had thought it would. "Layla, I already gave Hux a call. He said that he doesn't know what's going on, so you better stop making things up and falsely accuse him."

"Falsely accuse?!" Layla almost burst out in fury. "Aunt, we're both adults. You better have some evidence to back that up."

Huxley's mother smiled coldly and said, "Then, what evidence do you have of Huxley crossing you?"

"Of course, I do, but why would I let you know about it? Can you make decisions on his behalf? It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that I don't believe you have that much power," Layla countered.

"Watch your tongue, Layla! I'm your aunt! Father, listen to her. She doesn't show her seniors any respect at all!" She angrily retorted.

Solomon coughed and then said, "I don't know anything about this at all, so you should call Huxley and have him come back and have both of them speak about this face to face. Layla's no outsider. We can't let something small like this affect our families' relationship."

When Solomon had already said that, Huxley's mother had no choice but to give Huxley a call and tell him to come home.

Huxley had already made a decision to deny everything, and he did not believe that Layla had any evidence anyway. As such, when he received the call, he then drove back home.

"Grandpa, what's going on? Why did you call me back so suddenly?"

Huxley asked when he came into Solomon's residence. He glanced at Layla and then said with a faint smile, "When did you get here, cousin?"

"Cousin?" Layla snorted. "When have you ever treated me as your cousin?"

Huxley was not agitated and gave her a smile. "Whatever do you mean, cousin? You're my aunt's daughter, which makes you my cousin. No one can change that."

"Just listen to him, Layla. I don't believe that he has done anything against you," Huxley's mother continued.

Layla said with a cold smile, "That's not your choice to make. I, Layla Knight, will not make something out of nothing. I would never come to the Crawfords without having solid evidence about what happened. Huxley, you know how important the job from Rimworld Corporation is to me, but you made things difficult for me and forced me into a corner. Why did you do that?! If you hate me, then tell me! You harass me from the shadows and then say I'm your cousin? Aren't you embarrassed at all?!"

"Is there a misunderstanding somewhere between us? When did I do anything like that? Grandpa and my mom are both here, so don't you dare make things up and simply throw accusations around," Huxley said in a serious tone.

Layla scoffed. It was just like Dove had said. He did not dare to admit it. Luckily, Layla was prepared for this, and she immediately took out her mobile. She scrolled to the recording of her conversation with Kyle and played it.

When Huxley heard the conversation, he was so incensed that he could only grind his teeth. Kyle was an idiot! It was so obvious that Layla was simply trying to get information out of him. "What's your excuse this time, Huxley?!" Layla asked in a grave tone, her eyes filled with hellfire. Even Huxley's mother had nothing to say other than stare in disbelief.

Solomon said in a serious tone, "Huxley, how could you do something like that?! Layla's your cousin! You're really such a disappointment!"

"Grandpa... I... I'm sorry," Huxley had no choice but to admit to it. "I wasn't thinking things through. I'm sorry."

Layla mocked him, saying, "Is a sorry going to solve everything?"

Huxley's mother then said, "Layla, Hux is still very young, so don't antagonize him too much about this, alright? Not to mention that our families have always been tight-knitted. Forgive him this once, alright?"

Layla wanted to laugh. It seemed like her aunt had a hand in how Huxley turned out like this. "Aren't you being too lenient with him by saying he's still very young? He's not a child anymore, right? We're all adults here, so don't say something so laughable to me. Huxley's not treating me like his cousin, so there's no need for me to consider anything about our relationship. Huxley Crawford, I'm warning you right now. If you do anything like this to me ever again, I'm going to retaliate in full force! Also, Kyle has already agreed to work for Rimworld Corporation. If anything happens to his family while he's away, you'll take full responsibility for it. I hope you won't do anything stupid!"

After that, Layla let out a snort.

Huxley's mother was not someone that would take this lying down, but Huxley was the one that had erred here. That was why despite hearing what Layla had said, she could only keep her mouth shut.

Huxley was the same. He had no choice but to lower his head and said, "Don't worry, cousin. I know what I did wrong. I won't make the same mistake again."

"I don't trust you," Layla said icily. "Get a paper and a pen. Prepare a guarantee in writing, and guarantee that you won't take it out on Kyle and his family."

"You!" Huxley's expression darkened. He then looked at Solomon, saying, "Grandpa, isn't this a bit too much? I'm the heir of the Crawfords!"

Solomon did not even look at him when he simply picked up the cup and gave it a sip. "Do as she says."

Huxley was so angry that he could feel his chest about to burst. However, Solomon had made a decision, so he had no choice but to obey. In the end, he grabbed a piece of paper and did what Layla had asked him to. He wrote a letter of guarantee, and only then was Layla satisfied. Layle then kept the letter of guarantee in her bag before saying, "Grandpa, Kyle is still waiting for my news. I'll have to revert to him right now."

"Alright, drive safely and take your time." Solomon nodded.

Layla left very quickly. At this time, Huxley's mother forced a smile and said, "Dad, it's almost time for dinner. If there's nothing else, we'll take our leave now." She then tugged Huxley's sleeve, signaling for him to leave immediately.

"You can leave. Huxley, stay," Solomon said.

"Dad, Hux didn't mean it. Give him one more chance," she said.

"Mom, you should go back now. There's nothing you can do here."

When she saw that Solomon did not say a word, she had no choice but to turn and leave. "Grandpa, I'm sorry. I'm willing to receive any punishment." Huxley was a smart man. He knew that admitting to his fault right now would be better than to make up excuses or ask for mercy. Solomon sipped his tea and gave Huxley a glare. Only then did he say, "Huxley, do you know why I chose Asher to be the heir instead of you back then? It was because your temperament wasn't as mature as his. While Asher looks like he's someone egotistical and rash, he's calmer on the inside. Meanwhile, despite looking mature, you're quite easily shaken." "That is your greatest weakness. This matter about you harassing Layla has already been solved, so I won't say anything about this anymore. However, you will stay at home most of your time from now on. Even if you have to leave to deal with anything important, you will first need to get my approval. Reflect on your actions at home during this time."

The reason Solomon was limiting Huxley's freedom was because he wanted Huxley to reflect on his own actions. The other reason was because he wanted to protect Asher. That was because Solomon had heard that the conflict between Huxley and Asher was becoming worse. Brother against brother was something that Solomon did not want to see happening at all. Not to mention that Asher was already walking on thin ice. He could not allow Huxley to add oil to fire. Solomon was originally having a headache about finding the right excuse to limit Huxley's movement. Then, he himself served himself up on a silver platter.
