Chapter 18 -
Mason nodded and said, "Believe us. We don't make such mistakes. As for Livia liking Asher, that's not something that will stand between you and Asher getting back together. A good man is always in the crosshair of plenty of ladies. If you really cannot give Asher up, or perhaps it's better to say that if you want to be with him, then your heart must be strong enough. You must be strong in your belief that other than you, Asher will not fall in love with anyone else. Elle, I hope that you'll understand what I'm trying to tell you."
Mason gave him a smile and then left for his study.
The Leonards.
"Grandpa, I've gathered enough information. There's no 'Master Sander' in the Capital City!" Radley rushed into Hallberg's room. He then tried his best to quickly control his emotions when he saw the irritation in Hallberg's eyes.
Hallberg put down the glass of tea in his hand and asked, "How accurate is the information you've gathered?"
"One hundred percent accurate," Radley said with a serious tone. "Grandpa, while his identity as 'Master Sander' is a fake, he's a direct descendant of the Crawfords from the Capital City. Asher was the one that wasted Sam Schmidt two years ago. I've already sent the news to the Schmidts since they've been looking for him for the past two years as well. They've also sent news back to us saying that they will send men to Rollinsford to remove Asher as soon as possible. Once Asher is gone, the Stewards will run out of aces to play!"
Alexandrius, the Capital City, was a first-rate city in the country of Flosia. It had already existed for thousands of years.
Even when night descended upon this city, the lights from tens of thousands of homes easily dispelled the darkness.
The residence of the Schmidts was located in the Majesty District on top of a hill.
It was located in the most prosperous location in the district, with each square foot measured in gold. Even then, the entire hill had yet to be entirely developed. The reason was that the hill and the surrounding land were owned by the Schmidts as a way of showing their wealth and power. The entire estate on the hill was lit up bright, and three figures were strolling on the brick road. An elder and two younger figures.
The old man was reaching the end of his life with his hair already white, but he was still quite healthy as one could see from his face. He was slightly plump, and was wearing a red-patterned shirt.
To his left was a young man in his twenties. He wore a pair of glasses. He was not that handsome, but he was not that bad looking either.
To his right was a beautiful woman. She was tall and well-built and wearing a jersey. There was sweat on her forehead, and her cheeks were flushed. It was obvious that she had just finished her jog.
"The Leonards from Rollinsford have just sent us a piece of news. According to them, Asher has been hiding in a third-rate household in Rollinsford for the past two years. He has even gotten married into that family. While we've been looking for him everywhere, we didn't expect him to hide right under our noses. He's quite determined and daring, just like his grandfather," the old man said with a calm voice.
The young man to his left then said, "Grandpa, I've heard about it as well. We couldn't do anything to him in the past because we didn't know where he was. But now that we know he's hiding in Rollinsford, we won't let him get away again. I'll have my vengeance for my brother." The old man was none other than the Schmidts' current patriarch, Xavier Schmidt.
"Then, what do you think we should do next, Garrett?" Xavier gave Garrett a glance with a gentle smile on his face.
After Asher had ruined Sam, the heir that he was the happiest with, Xavier thought that no one else in the younger generation could replace Sam. However, for the past two years, Garrett seemed to have met his requirements. That was what pleased Xavier the most.
"Let him stay in Rollinsford forever," Garrett said with a cold voice, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
Xavier put his hand behind him as he slowly stepped forward and said, "It's not going to be easy to deal with Asher. If not, your brother wouldn't have ended up ruined two years ago. That's why we must be absolutely sure that the people that we send to Rollinsford can take him out. Who do you think we should send to Rollinsford?"
Garrett had not said anything just yet. Instead, he glanced at Rose Schmidt, the woman next to him. However, the latter made no comment at all.
"Grandpa, let me go then," Garrett said. "It's only fair for me to avenge Sam. I'm his younger
brother after all. I also want to use this chance to train myself."
"Rose, what is your opinion on this?" Xavier gave Rose a glance.
Rose gave it some thought and said, "Grandpa, I won't agree to letting Garrett go to Rollinsford."
"Why not, Rose? Don't you want to avenge Sam as well?" Garrett looked at Rose, confusion plastered on his face.
"Tell me what you're thinking."
"It's just like you said, Grandpa. Asher is not someone that we can take out that easily. Otherwise, he wouldn't have survived this long," Rose said as she brushed aside her sweaty bangs. "Those who know about Asher know that while he's arrogant, he's also quite cunning. Sam was ruined two years ago because he had underestimated him. We cannot afford to make the same mistake now. Otherwise, even if we do manage to kill Asher, we can never recover the losses we incur." When Garrett heard what she had to say, he became agitated and said, "How can you be so sure that I'll not be able to overcome Asher, Rose?"
Rose did not even think twice when she answered, "Sam told me the same thing two years ago." Garrett still tried his best to argue with her and said, "Sam fell into his traps because he had underestimated Asher. I'll not make the same mistake."
"Garrett... Asher is someone more challenging than you realize. You won't be able to deal with him," Rose insisted again.
"Hmph. I think you've overestimated his abilities, and you're undervaluing our own. If Asher is really as good as you say he is, then why did he choose to run two years ago? Why not stay in Alexandrius? I'm not afraid of him even if you are," Garrett huffed and puffed. "Grandpa, I promise you. If you let me go to Rollinsford, I'll make sure that Asher will never be able to return to Alexandrius."
Rose had her eyebrows locked together. However, when she saw how determined Garrett was, she did not try to stop him anymore. After Sam was taken out two years ago, her grandfather had been coaching Garrett to be the next patriarch. He also deeply adored Garrett. If she were to stop him again, her grandfather might not be happy about it.
Xavier gave it a deep thought and then said, "Let Garrett go, Rose. He hasn't had any challenges for the past two years. It might do him some good if he were to gain some experience in Rollinsford."
When he heard that, Garrett's face immediately lit up. He gave Rose a glance, and she simply nodded and said, "Grandpa, it's getting late. I'm going back to get some rest now." With that, Rose left in haste.
"Garrett, while I've agreed to let you go to Rollinsford, what Rose said is right as well. Asher is not someone that you can easily deal with. You cannot underestimate him. I'll have Rodrick Johnson accompany you. He can guarantee your safety in times of need." Xavier looked at Garrett with mixed feelings, his eyes filled with expectations.
Garrett nodded earnestly and said, "Don't worry, Grandpa. I won't fail you. I won't let our family name fall from grace. I'll head to Rollinsford tomorrow morning. All you need to do is to wait for my good news.
Next morning.
The Yaeger household in Rollinsford.
When Castor stepped into the courtyard, he saw Dove sitting on a wicker chair some distance away. It seemed like she was having a chat on her phone. After a short pause, Castor walked over and then overheard Dove mentioning something about meals and parties. He knew that this was about the arrangement for Dove's birthday.
That was because in two more days, Dove would be having her twenty-fifth birthday. The reason that Castor came back to Rollinsford was mainly because of this as well.
However, in the past, Dove had always had her birthday at home. It seemed like there were some changes this year.
Castor did not surprise Dove with his arrival as he had always been a light walker. He then heard Dove say, "I'll leave this to you. Arrange it at Julian's private club. I'll let him know later on. There won't be too many of us later on, so two tables should be enough..."
Only when Dove had hung up her call did Castor walk toward Dove and said with a smile, "Time really does fly. You're already 25 years old."
Dove quickly stood up from the wicker chair and said, "You heard everything?"
"It's quite boring to always have your birthday at home. It's fine if you want to celebrate it outside. Let me know if there is any present that you want. Not to mention that it's your 25th birthday, so we shouldn't take it lightly," Castor said with a smile.
"I don't need any presents. I'm already quite happy that you're back from the Capital City," Dove said with a smile.
Castor then sat down next to her and gave her a good look. However, he could not help but ask, "Dove, I don't mean to be rude but, you'll be inviting Master Crawford as well, right?"
