Chapter 25
Nora's POV
I willed myself to keep walking, ignoring the prying eyes and murmurs that followed me. My wolf howled for me to keep moving forward, to ignore the harsh words and whispers that surrounded me like a dense fog. I took a deep breath and kept walking, my eyes focused ahead, trying not to let the gossiping get to me.
As I made my way to class, I saw my friend Dora waving at me with a worried look on her face. She always knew when something was wrong, and she was always there for me. I felt a sense of relief wash over me as I walked over to her, ignoring the pointing fingers and murmurs that followed me. "Are you okay?" Dora asked, her voice full of concern. I nodded, trying to push the whispers to the back of my mind.
"Have you seen what's circulating around the school's Instagram page?" she asked, and I nodded, my stomach sinking. I didn't want to talk about it, but I appreciated her concern.
The whispers and murmurs continued throughout class, making it hard to focus. I could feel the constant gaze of a few students on me, but I kept my head down and focused on the test in front of me. After two long hours, I finally submitted my papers and made my way to grab my bag.
But as I was leaving, a guy stopped me, his face twisted into a cruel smirk. "Hey, free giver," he teased, blocking my path. I tried to move away, but he wouldn't budge.
"I believe you are a cheerful giver, and I haven't been with a werewolf, less a chubby one like you," he mocked, and I felt my blood boil.
"Get away, you prick," I warned, but another guy stepped forward, his eyes full of malice. "Stop acting innocent and naive. We know you want us. You basically want every dude in this school," he sneered, and the rest of the class erupted in laughter.
I felt my face flush with anger and humiliation, but I refused to let them get to me. "Let me pass," I demanded, my voice shaking.
"And if we don't, what will you do, you whore?" one of the guys asked, and I felt a wave of disgust wash over me.
"I'm not a whore. It's your mate that is a whore," I spat back, feeling a hand slap across my face.
I stared at him, tears filling my eyes, my body shaking with rage. "You lay your hand on me!" I screamed, my voice cracking. "I did, and what will you do about it?" he taunted, but Dora appeared at my side.
"Let's go. He's a strong vampire, and you can't fight him," she whispered, pulling me away from the group.
As we left the class, I heard the whispers and murmurs grow louder, some filled with disgust, others with pity. Dora and I sat under a tree, both of us silent as we tried to calm down.
"What happened? Who is he?" Dora asked, her voice soft and gentle.
"I got drunk and wasted at a bar, so he decided to help me, nothing else," I explained, feeling ashamed.
"I fully understand," Dora said, her eyes full of understanding, but her words were cut off by a group of girls led by Vera.
"Who do we have here? My popular whore of a sister," she sneered, forcing me to my feet.
"I'm not a whore!" I yelled, my voice full of anger and frustration.
"Of course you are," she mocked, her three friends cackling behind her. "I knew you always wanted to be popular and get noticed like me. You always wanted to have what I have. So good luck in your newfound fame." She mocked and turned to leave, but I slapped her cheek.
Without saying a word, I picked up my bag and raced towards the gate. I ran out of school and continued running until I got a cab.
I directed the cab to take me to the mansion because I didn't want to go home and see the disappointed look on my dad's face. Within a few minutes, I arrived at the mansion, paid for the taxi, and exited the car. I rang the bell and was allowed into the mansion.
As I approached the sitting room, I said Hi to everyone I met on my way until I met Lady Emma in the sitting room. She was surprised to see me because she wasn't expecting me until 4 pm, but I explained and told her I had nothing to do after my test. "Are you okay?" she asked, running a quick gaze over me. "Yes, I am," I responded with a weak smile, and by the look on her face, I knew she was not convinced, but she decided to let it go.Visit Jo b n i b.com to read the complete chapters for free. I got in, switched on the light, and cleaned the library. I also dusted the books, ensuring everything was intact, before sitting behind my desk.
I picked up a book and tried to read, but my mind was filled with worries and concerns. Out of curiosity, I picked up my phone and flicked through images of happy students, but my thumb suddenly stopped on a picture of me carried in the arms of Lord Maddison. I couldn't believe someone would have taken a picture of us, let alone posted it for everyone to see.
As I stared at the photo, I noticed dozens of comments underneath it. I clicked on them, my eyes scanning the words with growing horror. People were making fun of me, calling me names, and even accusing me of things I never did. The tears started to well up in my eyes as I read the hateful messages.
"Ignore them," Lolita urged, telling me that it didn't matter what they said, and their words couldn't hurt me. But deep down, I knew that their cruelty was taking its toll. I felt exposed and vulnerable, as if everyone was watching and judging me. I couldn't understand why someone would want to hurt me like this.
As the tears spilled down my cheeks, I felt a surge of anger. I wanted to scream at these people, to ask them to mind their own business and leave me alone. But I knew that it wouldn't make any difference. So, I did the only thing I could think of: I turned off my phone and dropped it on the desk.
As I tried to compose myself, the door opened, and Lord Maddison walked in, dressed in a black shirt and a pair of black jeans.
I held his gaze for a moment and quickly looked away, but he had caught me crying. "Greetings," I stood to my feet and lowered my head with respect, but he didn't respond to it.
"What's the matter?" he demanded, but I didn't respond. "Are you going to talk, or should I make you talk?" he spoke with threats, and despite not knowing what he was up to, I didn't want more problems in my life.
With a sigh, I picked up my phone, scrolled to the picture, and handed the phone to him, which he reluctantly took and fixed his gaze on it.
I watched the expressionless look on his face change to anger.
He was angry and wasn't even hiding it. I saw him scroll down to the comment section and read a few before dropping the phone on the desk.
"Do you know who might have done it?" he asked, and I shook my head. "It's definitely not your sister. The picture was posted at 7 pm yesterday, and we were all together at the table then," he grumbled and left the library.
With a frustrated sigh, I closed my eyes for a moment, wondering how my life would have turned out if I were slender; perhaps I wouldn't be getting these hateful comments from people. After composing myself, I picked up a book and began reading, but I was interrupted by Lord Maddison walking into the library.
He got to the desk and glared at me for a moment before speaking, "The video has been taken down, and the person behind the post has been caught." He said, confusing me. "And why didn't you communicate with me when you saw it?" he asked. I didn't respond, but instead, I asked, "Who was it that posted it?"
"A vampire, he attends your school, and I will deal with him," he muttered as a promise, still holding my gaze. "I heard you have been a victim of bullying," he said, while I gulped and looked away. "You have to speak to someone..." he tried to speak, but I cut him off. "Why do you care?" I asked, irritated by his sudden caring attitude toward me. "Because I have to!" he groaned, looking away. "What do you mean?" I asked and received a heavy sigh from him.
