Mommy,We Got a Husband

Chapter 389 Do You Still Not Trust Me?

Alaric kept staring into Stellan's eyes. She was lost in thought, then shook her head. "Nah, I got nothing to hide from you."

Stellan wasn't the type to lie, especially now. It was obvious she had something on her mind but didn't wanna spill.

Since she didn't wanna talk, he wouldn't push her. But he'd asked a bunch of times, and she still kept quiet, which bummed Alaric out a bit. "Alright, cool." Alaric gave a faint smile. "You haven't eaten yet. Want me to ask Mia to heat something up for you?"

"No thanks, I'm not hungry," Stellan said. "I'm just so tired, I wanna crash."

"Okay, then go to bed." Alaric scooped Stellan up and carried her to the bedroom, laying her on the bed. "Get some sleep."

"Aren't you gonna sleep?" Stellan asked quickly.

"I'll sleep after I finish some work." Alaric leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Don't overthink it, just sleep. Night."

"Night, Alaric." Stellan watched him leave the room, thinking about what Rowena had told her.

She and Alaric had been through a lot.

Even if they fought, all couples did.

Marigold was out of the picture, and no one would come between them anymore. Once this was sorted, everything would be back to normal.

Thinking this, Stellan felt hopeful and closed her eyes.

She was really beat. She hadn't slept well in days. She was out like a light in seconds.

Alaric went back to the study to work, but he couldn't focus. His mind was all over the place, thinking about everything, and he finally shut down the computer in frustration.

When he got back to the bedroom, Stellan was already out cold. He slipped into bed quietly and pulled her close.

Watching her sleep, thinking about her dodging his questions earlier, Alaric felt a pang in his heart.

He sighed softly. "Galatea, why won't you tell me even when I keep asking? Don't you trust me?"

He was her husband, and not being trusted by his wife sucked big time.

Alaric knew she hadn't told him about Marigold kidnapping her because she didn't wanna make things hard for him, but was it right to get back at Marigold behind his back? He really wished Stellan would tell him the truth. Even if she didn't have proof, he could investigate and help her find the evidence.

It was tough for him to handle. But no matter how tough, it shouldn't have blown up like this. Unfortunately, it did.

Alaric let out a long sigh and closed his eyes. He was wiped out, hoping that when he woke up, it would all be a bad dream.

But no matter how many times he woke up, it wasn't a dream, and he couldn't fool himself.

That night, Stellan slept like a rock, but Alaric barely got any shut-eye.

Stellan woke up naturally, realizing Alaric had already left. She quickly got dressed and got up.

"Mia, where's Alaric?" Stellan asked Mia hurriedly.

Mia replied, "Mr. Knight's already at the office. He said you should rest at home today and not go to work."

Not going to the office today? Looked like he was cleaning up the mess she made.

Stellan asked, "Did he have breakfast?"

Mia shook her head. "Nope, I made it, but Mr. Knight left without eating."

He hadn't eaten much yesterday, and now he skipped breakfast too. Stellan called Cormac.

Cormac picked up. "Galatea."

"Cormac, can you bring Alaric some breakfast?" Stellan said, "He didn't eat much yesterday, and he left without breakfast this morning. He's still recovering, and I'm worried..." Cormac replied, "Don't worry, I'll make sure he eats."

"Thanks, Cormac."

"No need to thank me. Did Alaric tell you to rest at home for a few days?" Cormac asked.

Stellan nodded. "Yeah."

"Then listen to him and chill at home." Cormac was still pissed about what the higher-ups had said at the last meeting.

It was better for Stellan to stay away from the company and avoid getting upset with those folks.

Stellan said, "Alright, Cormac, please try to keep him calm and make sure he doesn't get too worked up. His body can't handle it."

"I got it, don't worry. I'll handle it," Cormac said, "I heard from Rowena that you didn't eat much yesterday either. Make sure you eat well at home." Stellan replied, "I will."

After talking to Cormac, Stellan felt a bit more at ease.

Cormac placed the packed breakfast on Alaric's desk. Seeing this, Alaric asked, "What's this?"

"Breakfast," Cormac said, "Galatea called me, said you left without breakfast and asked me to bring it to you. She also told me to make sure you eat it." Alaric waved his hand. "I really don't have an appetite. Take it away."

"No way," Cormac said firmly, "Skipping dinner is one thing, but you gotta eat breakfast. Come on, eat before you get busy. You're still recovering. Hurry up."

"Alright." With Cormac's urging, Alaric had no choice but to sit down and eat. He really didn't feel like it, but he forced himself to finish the meal.

After eating, Alaric dove straight into work and asked, "Has the safety inspection team reported back yet?"

Cormac said, "They should have results today. They've checked every corner of the construction site and found no safety hazards. But even if there are no other issues, with such a big incident and PR mess, it's unlikely we can resume work soon."

"If we can't, then we'll pause. No rush." Alaric thought for a moment and asked, "Do you really think this was just an accident?"

Cormac was puzzled. "What do you mean?"

Alaric spilled his suspicion, "The Vale family sees me as an enemy now. With Stuart and Ambrose's shady behavior, wouldn't they take advantage of my mom's passing to cause trouble?"

"Are you saying the Vale family caused this? But there's no evidence of foul play." Although Cormac said this, he suddenly felt less confident. After all, Alaric didn't know about the threatening package.

Now with the Vale family and those hidden enemies targeting the Storm family, the construction accident seemed too coincidental.

"I'll go investigate further," Cormac said.
