Chapter 310
Everett lazily lifted his eyelids, giving her the go-ahead to speak.
Selena's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Did you hear? Joy went on a blind date recently."
"I didn't know." Everett sounded a bit annoyed, thinking she might have something more pressing to discuss, only to find out it's about someone else's business.
Selena paused, then continued, "Her date was the second son of the Sterling family. Have you heard of him? What's he like? And what about his past relationships?" Everett scoffed.
He put down his fork, dabbed his lips with a napkin, crossed his arms, and leaned back in his chair.
With a slight smirk, he replied, "Mrs. Bennett, do you really think I'd be thrilled to talk about other men with you?"
Selena was momentarily taken aback, then shot him a look of disbelief. "I'm just looking out for Joy, trying to see what kind of guy she's getting involved with. Are you seriously jealous?" She couldn't help but stand up for Joy. "You're her godbrother, after all. She's always had your back. Can't you show a bit of concern for her?"
Seeing her cheeks puff up in frustration lightened Everett's mood. He reached out and gently pinched her cheek.
"Alright, alright, whatever you say, Mrs. Bennett. I'll have Derick look into it and give you a detailed report, okay?" Selena lifted her chin with a hint of pride. "Now that's more like it!"
She trusted Derick's abilities. If anyone could uncover everything about the Sterling family's second son,
I was him!
Joy was her best friend, and she wanted nothing more than for her to marry a great guy and live happily ever after.
Three days later, Derick made a special trip to the villa and respectfully laid out every detail of the Sterling's second son's life to Selena, down to nearly how many moles he had.
In summary, he was a prestigious university graduate, a college professor, wicked smart, well-mannered, no bad habits, and had dated a few women. But those relationships ended because he was too engrossed in his research. All breakups were amicable, though. He was quite the catch in their social circle.
Selena nodded in satisfaction after hearing all this; he seemed like a genuinely decent guy.
Everett waved Derick off and then pulled Selena onto his lap.
His dark eyes locked onto hers, a
playful grin spreading across his et e you e
face. "Mrs. Bennett, I've taken
of it for you. So, how
planning to thank me?"
Selena raised an eyebrow. "Wasn't this your choice?"
"My choice?" Everett chuckled. "Mrs. Bennett, your husband's a
businessman. Businessmen don't do freebies. There's no such thing as a free lunch."
"You..." Selena gritted her teeth, knowing she couldn't outwit his cheeky
nature. "What do you want,
then?"
snow
"I want you... to make the first move for once." Everett leaned in, whispering each word into her ear.
She knew he couldn't utter a single serious word!
Selena pushed him away, got up, and swiftly headed for the stairs!
"Go wash up and get to bed; dreams have it all!"
With that, she went upstairs to her bedroom.
Everett wasn't upset; loosening his tie, he watched her playful retreat with amusement in his eyes.
Selena was gradually letting go of past shadows, rediscovering her true self.
And that was good.
Really good.
Time flew by, from winter to spring, life blossomed anew, and the weather grew warmer.
Selena's belly was growing; the baby was six months along now.
Today, she was visiting Josh, who looked at her round belly with a grin that spread from ear to ear.
