Chapter 260
Callum stepped up to the hospital bed, checking in on Selena. He gently reassured the doctor, "Don't worry, I'll take full responsibility for Mrs. Bennett's situation. You're not on the hook for this one." The doctor, who had been on edge, finally felt a wave of relief wash over him. With someone else shouldering the blame, he could breathe easy again.
Callum gazed at Selena's frail form with a heavy heart. He gently held her cold hand, his voice soft and tender, as if she were made of glass. "Selena, just relax and rest. I've got your secret covered." While a nurse was off trying to get Everett's private number, he happened to overhear the situation and rushed over as soon as he learned about Selena's accident. Thankfully, he made it just in time.
Selena knew Callum was a man of his word, always reliable. She felt a wave of gratitude and whispered a faint, "Thank you..." before allowing herself to drift back into unconsciousness.
...
Selena felt like she was trapped in a fog, with a voice calling out to her, "Mummy, mummy..." Was it her baby? She strained her eyes, desperate to find her little one.
"Where are you, baby? Mummy's here!" she called out.
Suddenly, a little marshmallow of a child appeared, sitting on the ground, crying as if abandoned. Her heart clenched with pain, and she hurried towards the child. But as she got closer, it turned and ran into the dark mist, ignoring her calls. Watching the tiny figure disappear into the fog, Selena let out a heart-wrenching cry. "Baby!"
She jolted awake, gasping for breath, drenched in sweat, her eyes wide with fear and loss.
"Selena, what's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?" Everett's deep, concerned voice reached her ears. His large, warm hand enveloped hers, bringing a sense of security that calmed her racing heart.
Selena's eyes slowly focused, taking in Everett's handsome face, and she felt her eyes well up with tears. He was her closest love, the one she longed to confide in, to seek comfort from. But she... couldn't find the words. Despite the turmoil inside, she had to keep it all bottled up.
Everett, sensing her low spirits,
assumed it was discomfort causing it. His heart ached as he asked in a husky tone, "Selena, is your head bothering you again? Don't worry, I'll get the doctor."
He pressed the call button.
Headache? Selena absentmindedly touched her head, feeling the bandages. "What happened to me?"
Everett gave a brief explanation:
"Don't you remember? You were in a car accident and hit your head. Fortunately, it was just a mild
concussion, no other injuries-a bit
swnovel
of luck in an unlucky situation."
Hearing this, Selena breathed a huge sigh of relief internally. It seemed her baby was okay, and Dr. Campbell had kept things under wraps.
Instinctively, her hand moved to touch her belly, but noticing Everett's gaze, she quickly pulled it back.
The doctor came in, checked Selena over, and confirmed there was
nothing serious. "Mr. Everett, Mrs.
Bennett just woke up. She might et
experience some dizziness, headaches, or nausea-it's all
normal. Don't worry too much; rest
will help her recover."
Everett nodded slightly.
Dr. Schmidt, seizing a moment when Everett wasn't looking, discreetly signaled to Selena: Mrs. Bennett, I've done what I can. From here, you'll need to be careful. Selena caught the hint and gave him a subtle wink of thanks.
Once the doctor left, Everett gently helped her sip some water, then asked seriously, "Selena, what happened with the accident?"
Selena's heart, which had just started to calm, began to race anxiously again.
