Chapter 978
Dustin heard the news blaring on the TV and knew Michael was tuned in too, which saved him the trouble of rehashing everything.
"Michael, what's the deal with that estate? Why did it go up in flames, and what caused the explosion? Everyone's scrambling for answers. I've told the higher-ups it was a wildfire caused by lightning, but you and I both know a wildfire doesn't spread that fast." Michael raised an eyebrow, a sly grin spreading across his face. "That estate isn't really your business, Mr. Lynch. I'm curious, what brings you to my doorstep about it?"
Dustin pulled over a chair and sat down slowly.
"Brielle is the lost sister of the Lynch family, my own flesh and blood. I need to understand how she ended up in this mess."
Michael had spent the previous night trying to calm his nerves. Sure, Antonio had thrown him a curveball, but he wasn't worried-as long as Antonio followed through with his plan to leverage the estate's secrets against Max. Given how much Max cared for Brielle, he'd surely cave and hand over Dorsey International.
Michael couldn't stand the thought of Dorsey International falling into obscurity.
He also admitted to himself that his biggest regret was stopping Max from being with Brielle. After all, women were just playthings. Even if Brielle wasn't fit to bear Max's children, all Michael had to do was arrange an "accident" for another woman to get pregnant with Max's child.
Brielle was just an accessory; her tainted and questionable lineage had no place birthing children for the Dorsey family.
Michael regretted not compromising, being too confident in himself, and pushing Max too hard.
He had always believed that the Dorsey clan didn't do blind love, forgetting that Max wasn't really one of them.
Max was the exception, the hopeless romantic that couldn't be confined by Dorsey family standards.
Michael was green with regret; because of a lowlife, he'd lost Dorsey International.
Now, just as he had made peace with his actions, someone had the audacity to claim that Brielle was the esteemed princess of the diamond empire, Infinity Brilliance.
Was he hallucinating?
He didn't want to accept it, his mind almost blank, as if he hadn't heard a word.
Dustin sat there, unconcerned with what Michael might think.
"Michael, did you catch what I said? Brielle is my sister. If she wanted the entirety of Infinity Brilliance, I'd hand it over without batting an eye. Now she's in trouble, and I need to know the estate's secrets, the cause of the fire, the parties involved. Don't worry, almost everyone inside is gone. I won't be looking for vengeance, but I need the truth."
His words drilled into Michael's ears like a demonic chant.
Michael's composure shattered; his hands trembled, followed by his entire body.
His mind thundered as if struck by lightning.
Brielle wasn't some mystery bastard; she was the long-lost princess of the Lynch family, the younger sister of the CEO of Infinity Brilliance-a juggernaut in the diamond industry.

What had he done?
Back then, he had dismissed Brielle's origins, focusing solely on her talent. He resented her involvement with Spencer, so he had her take contraceptives.
During her three years at Dorsey International, she had handled countless acquisitions, her talent unmatched among her peers.
But her origins were her stain; a child
from a welfare mark, how dare she compare to the Dorseys? Even after the Haywood family took her in, what good could come from those opportunistic vultures?
He looked down on Brielle, loathed the idea of her climbing the ranks through Spencer, and thought feeding her contraceptives was his wisest move. Now, how ridiculous it all seemed.
She was the beloved gem of the Lynch family, doted on by her brother, her bloodline noble and pure.
The thing he scorned most turned out to be the finest.
What irony, what absurdity.
He had pushed Max away from the Dorsey family and destroyed Dorsey International over Brielle's birth.
If only he had agreed to let Max marry Brielle Dorsey International would have soared. Once the Lynch family reclaimed Brielle, the Dorsey's and Lynches would have been united by marriage, a powerhouse alliance that would have taken Dorsey International to
unprecedented heights.
What had he done?
What had he done?!
Overcome with rage and regret, Michael coughed up a mouthful of blood.
