Married at First Sight

Chapter 2009

Jasmine chuckled.
Her best friend had Zachary wrapped around her finger, but Zachary had Seren wrapped around his too.
It was because the husband and wife had a good relationship. Without love, they could not have influenced one another.
Serenity cleared her throat before picking up Zachary’s call.
“Babe.”
She deliberately made her voice cuter and addressed him.
On the other end of the call, Zachary’s hand trembled. His phone almost dropped to the ground.
He thought he had called the wrong person. After moving his phone away from his ear and taking a look, he verified that he was
indeed calling his wife.
He placed the phone by his ear again and asked Serenity with a laugh, “What bad deed have you done that you don’t wish for
me to find out? Or did you badmouth me behind my back?”
“Nothing. I just miss you. Did your bones tingle from me calling you like that? Or did you dislike it?”
Zachary smiled and said, “I was startled and thought I dialed the wrong number. You must’ve been badmouthing me behind my
back and were interrupted by my call. You called me in such a cute way because you felt guilty. Otherwise, you would’ve just
called me Zachary. You usually call me that.”
“No. I really didn’t. What do you want to tell me, babe?”
The guilty Serenity quickly changed the topic and asked Zachary why he called.
“Can’t I call you because I miss you? You’re at the bookstore, right?”
“Yup. I just got here.”
Zachary asked whether Jasmine was present as well. He only got to the point after obtaining a reply. He told Serenity, “Kevin
called me just now and told me something. I didn’t want to tell you about it, but I can’t bypass you. I’ll let you know, but you
mustn’t meddle in this. Leave it to Aunt Audrey to deal with it.”

“What trouble is it that requires Aunt Audrey to handle it?” Serenity asked out of curiosity.
Zachary informed Serenity about the Fisher family.
After hearing everything, Serenity was stunned for some time before snapping back to her senses. She said, “I’ll look for Aunt
Audrey later to discuss this with her. She was already a few years old back then and will most probably have memories of it.”
“Yeah, just mention this matter to her. She’ll take care of it.”
“Okay.”
Serenity knew the issue had to be handled by Aunt Audrey too. Her mother had passed away, and she and her sister had no
clue about their mother’s identity. They only knew she had a sister, and her parents and family were dead.
They never thought their mother’s family had been killed in a scheme.
Did wealthy families really plot and fight against each other all day?
How good was it to just be like the Yorks and the Johnsons? Everyone got along well. They did not fight for power and money.
They even feared the position of the family head and avoided it like the plague.
Serenity thought being the head of a big family was tiring as well.
They were like Zachary, heading out early in the morning and only returning home late at night. They worked like a bull.
They always slept late and woke up early as well. It was not as laid-back of a position as everyone thought.
Zachary only reduced his workload after getting married.
When he had just married, he often returned home only around midnight. Serenity still remembered that she once locked the
doors after returning home late at night. It had caused Zachary, who came back later than she did, to be unable to enter the
house. He got furious that night.
After ending the call, Serenity put down the phone.
Jasmine saw her serious expression. The call lasted for quite some time too. She asked out of concern, “What happened?”
“It’s related to my mom’s identity.”

“What is it? Aren’t your mom and Mrs. Stone sisters? Didn’t you and Mrs. Stone undergo a DNA test? It proved that you two
were related by blood.”
