Chapter 776
"Trying to explain it to him is like talking to a brick wall," Chloe sighed. "He's just a jealous, childish fool."
Cassie rarely saw Chloe so caught up in matters of the heart. Chloe, ever the practical one, had sworn off men since Lucas's betrayal. Cassie nudged Chloe's cheek playfully, "Looks like you're smitten with your Trophy Boy."
Chloe frowned, "Don't call him that. He hates it."
Cassie chuckled, shaking her head, "You're a goner."
Chloe took a bite of her cherry-glazed foie gras, "So, how's your Trophy Boy doing?"
From a previous conversation, Chloe had a hunch that Cassie and Winston were an item.
Cassie sighed at the mention, "He's moved to Eldridge City too."
Chloe raised an eyebrow, "That's awesome, right? Dr. Winston's a catch. You should treat him right, he's sacrificed a lot to be here."
Winston had a private practice in Riverbrook. Moving to Eldridge City wouldn't stop him from setting up another, but he was emotionally tied to Riverbrook. He wouldn't have chosen it as his home base otherwise. Cassie lit a cigarette, frustration evident, "We're good together-eating, drinking, having fun but something feels off."
"What feels off?"
Cassie blushed, a rare sight. She glanced around, then leaned in to whisper, "He's always all over me."
Chloe nearly spat out her food, eyeing Cassie, "Are you sure you're in a relationship? It'd be weird if he wasn't handsy." Chloe looked at Cassie with concern, "You don't like him touching you?"
This worried Chloe. Cassie, despite her tomboyish style, was all woman at heart. She wasn't into women; she liked good-looking guys and loved a bit of gossip. But if she wasn't comfortable with her boyfriend's touch, that was troubling. Cassie confessed, "It's not that I don't like it. Sometimes, I actually enjoy it, but if he touches me too much, he might figure out I'ma woman."
Chloe sputtered her red wine in shock onto Cassie's sleeve.
"Hey, Chloe-bear, mind your manners."
Unfazed, Chloe's eyes lit up with curiosity, "You can't be serious-Dr. Winston still doesn't know you're a woman."
Cassie lit another cigarette, "Nope, he doesn't."
Chloe snatched the cigarette away, "No smoking."
Then she asked, "How on earth does he not know you're a woman if you're dating?"
Cassie sighed, "Well, he's into men. So, I had to pretend to be a guy."
"This relationship is a blast, but I think my cover's about to be blown. He's getting way too cuddly."
Chloe was baffled by the whole situation. It was beyond peculiar, a real head-scratcher.
That Winston hadn't figured out Cassie was a woman was bizarre enough. But for them to carry on like this for so long without him catching on made Chloe seriously question Winston's awareness.
