Chapter 753
Just as Connor stepped forward, the whole venue was suddenly swallowed by darkness. A loud crash echoed through the room, like a crystal chandelier had hit the floor, mixed with the sound of countless glasses shattering. Connor's heart seized with fear as chaos erupted around him.
Screams pierced the air. "What's happening? What's going on?" "Why did the lights suddenly go out?" "What was that noise?" "I think the chandelier fell!" "Nobody move, there's glass everywhere!"
Connor felt his heart drop. The darkness only lasted a few seconds, but to him, they felt like an eternity. Then, the lights flickered back on, flooding the banquet hall with brightness. Connor quickly glanced around. The crystal chandelier had indeed fallen, and the champagne tower was toppled over. Shards of glass and sharp crystal littered the floor.
"Ah, someone's hurt!!" a voice shouted. "Blood, there's blood everywhere!" The champagne, once clear, was now stained a shocking red, like a river of blood, grabbing everyone's attention.
But it wasn't Chloe who was hurt. It was Grant. He lay amidst the broken glass, holding Chloe protectively in his arms. Connor watched them, feelings swirling inside him. He could almost see the scene unfolding in his mind. The chandelier had started to fall, and Grant had rushed to shield Chloe, knocking over the champagne tower in the process. They both went down, but Grant had turned his body into a human shield for Chloe, his back becoming a pincushion of glass.
Chloe was momentarily stunned.
The whole thing had happened so fast, she hadn't even had time to react. One minute she felt a strong force pulling her, and the next, she was crashing into someone's arms. As they hit the ground, she heard a muffled groan from beneath her.
When the lights went out, Chloe had pieced together what had happened. And now, with the lights back on, she saw Grant's face, cool and composed. She turned her head, taking in the scattered crystals and shards around them. In that moment, she understood it was
Grant who had saved her.
Everyone around was in shock. Chloe was unharmed, cradled in Grant's arms, while his back was pierced by glass, blood pooling beneath him, mingling with the spilled champagne-a sight too intense to bear.
Chloe snapped back to reality.

Taylor and Isaac rushed over, and Taylor, seeing all the blood, broke into tears. "Bro, bro, are you okay? Someone call an ambulance, quick."
Connor hurried to help, and with everyone's careful assistance, Chloe finally got off Grant. He managed to stand, his white shirt stained a vivid red, the original color completely obscured.
