Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 742

The stage seemed to turn into a whirlwind of chaos because of her, playing out the most intense highs and lows of human emotion. Chloe found herself momentarily swept away by the drama unfolding before her.

She had never seen anything so utterly captivating. Hidden behind a faux rock, she watched, completely absorbed. The performers seemed to cast a spell over the audience. Their cries of despair and tears that seemed to bleed reached into her soul, each word and note

striking her heart like a heavy hammer.

She wasn't sure how long she'd been standing there, lost behind that faux rock. It wasn't until the play reached its peak, with a princess brandishing a gleaming sword, that Chloe snapped back to reality. The sword caught the moonlight, flashing dangerously.

It was then that Chloe realized she had to intervene. Even though she knew Claire might be lurking somewhere, watching, and even though she knew stepping out now could put her in peril, she couldn't just stand by and watch another life be snuffed out. Just as she was about to step forward, someone pulled her back. She turned to see Pax. But there was no time for surprise.

Her voice was sharp and urgent, "Let go of me, Pax."

But Pax held firm, gripping her wrist tightly. "Chloe, you can't go there."

Chloe blinked in shock. Pax knew it was dangerous too? Did he also understand Claire's twisted nature? How she toyed with lives like they were nothing more than playthings? This realization sparked a fire of anger in Chloe.

With a quick motion, she twisted Pax's arm, holding him in place. "Pax, no matter what, I have to save the person on stage today. If you have any decency, you'll come with me."

Having Pax by her side was actually

a stroke of luck. No matter how ruthless Claire was, she wouldn't harm her own son. With Pax as her safety met, Chloe felt certain she could make it through unscathed.

She was just about to haul Pax along when he whispered, "The woman on stage is my mother. Every year on this day, she loses herself. If you go now, she'll hurt you." Chloe froze. What? The performer on stage was Claire?

She turned, looking at the stage in disbelief. Caught up in the tragic performance and the heavy makeup obscuring the woman's features, she hadn't recognized her. Now, as she looked more closely, the figure, the eyes-they did look like Claire's.

Chloe was at a loss. She never imagined Claire would take the stage herself for such a heartbreaking opera. Retreating behind the faux rock, Chloe asked, bewildered, "Your mom, isn't she supposed to hate actors?"

Pax, staring at the stage, seemed lost in thought. "What she loves most is also an actor."

Chloe was puzzled. But then again, Claire was known for her erratic behavior and inexplicable actions. "The king's spirit is broken; what is left for his humble consort!" The performance had hit its climax.

Chloe watched as the glinting sword hovered at Claire's throat. It was clear as day-it wasn't a prop. This was a real, deadly blade. Just a little pressure, and it could slice through the arteries, sending blood gushing...
