Chapter 648
Seeing Chloe, Lisa's face dropped. But then she remembered the five million dollar jewelry she was about to snag, and a smug grin crept back onto her face. Connor made his way over to Claire, looking all respectful-like. "Big sister's here too," he said.
Claire gave him the once-over and remarked, "You've been doing alright for yourself lately."
Connor's voice was steady and calm, "All thanks to your mercy, big sister."
Claire chuckled, clearly entertained. "Well, I've been a bit bored, so your peaceful days might be numbered."
Connor's expression didn't budge. "Then I'll be right there with you till the end, sis."
His tone carried no hint of fear, just a mix of calm authority and a touch of disdain. Claire found this version of her brother intriguing; he seemed different somehow. Soon enough, Claire's eyes landed on Chloe. "I hear you two tied the knot?"
Chloe answered coolly, "Yes, Ms. Claire."
"Since you're hitched, shouldn't you call me big sister?"
Chloe gave a slight smile, "Given how well-known you and my husband's relationship is, I think we can skip the formalities. It's just too fake."
"Typical of a wild girl from a small town, completely lacking in manners."
Connor was about to jump in, but Chloe gently stopped him by holding his arm.
Unfazed by Claire's jab, Chloe smiled lightly, "True, I'm just a wild girl with no manners, so if I ever step out of line and tick off Ms. Claire, please don't hold it against me."
Claire was momentarily at a loss for
words. Deep down, she admired
Chloe. Despite her humble
beginnings, Chloe carried an innate elegance. Standing next to Lisa, the contrast was striking, like a proud swan beside a squawking wild duck.
Claire had tried to bring Chloe to her side before, but Chloe chose to stand against her. So Claire decided not to hold back either. She just gave a soft smile.
At that moment, the lights in the exhibition hall dimmed, and everyone fell silent. The master of ceremonies, sporting a feather in his lapel, rose smoothly from a hidden platform.
"Welcome to the annual grand gala of the QUEEN Jewelry Group..."
The host was none other than the internationally renowned comedian, Mr. David. His lively and humorous style instantly livened up the room.
After a flurry of witty remarks, Mr. David continued, "Today's jewelry exhibition will be broadcast worldwide, including all the auctions, which will be fully public."
The announcement caused quite a stir. No one expected such a high-profile event to be livestreamed. Many of the guests were secretive tycoons who valued their privacy and hadn't been given a heads-up.
The room buzzed with agitation, and
even Claire furrowed her brow. To her, a broadcast felt like a publicity stunt typical of the entertainment world not something you'd expect from QUEEN. It was sure to ruffle feathers.
Sure enough, wealthy attendees from around the globe began to voice their objections, throwing the event into chaos.
But Chloe stayed cool as a
cucumber. The broadcast was her
brainchild, cooked up with a friend's help. Sure, it might anger these privacy-obsessed elites, but today she needed to use this strategy to finally bring Lisa down. Only by exposing Lisa's misdeeds to the world could justice be served. And no matter how influential Claire was, she wouldn't be able to rescue Lisa this time.
