Chapter 1666
"The military is the military, but this is my home. Now that you're here, there's no way I'm letting you be treated poorly," Nina said, holding Scarlett's hand warmly.
It had been a long time since they had seen each other, and seeing Scarlett now reminded her of Yvonne.
Scarlett chuckled. "You could never treat me poorly. But I heard Pharaoh has been unwell. How is he doing?"
"He's undergoing chemotherapy," Nina replied with a sigh. "With cancer, you never really know. Some people survive for decades, while others have only days after their diagnosis." "I'd like to visit him," Scarlett said.
Despite everything, she felt a deep sense of gratitude toward Pharaoh. After all, he and Wilfred had trained her. Even though her past with Sawyer had been painful, it was behind her now. Everyone was trying to move forward. "Let's eat first. I'll take you to see him after," Nina offered.
"All right," Scarlett agreed.
Nina decided that leaving everything to the helper wasn't enough. She headed into the kitchen herself to prepare the meal.
Meanwhile, Gemma started crying, and Nash took on the task of soothing her. Scarlett noticed Gemma, the little girl who looked like a miniature version of Nina-rosy-cheeked and utterly adorable.
Nash handed Gemma to Scarlett, and she hesitantly took her into her arms. Scarlett had never held such a small child before and felt nervous, as though Gemma might slip right through her fingers.
Nash laughed. "Don't be so tense! You've handled explosives before. Surely, a baby isn't scarier than that. How are you going to be a mom someday with nerves like this?" Scarlett gave a helpless smile. "Captain Nash, a baby is nothing like a bomb!"
Nash smirked. "Consider it early training. Don't overthink it. Since you're here, why not stay for a while? Keep Nina company. When is James planning to come back?"
"James still has another two weeks.
He needs to wrap up his tasks before he can return. He already has a place i Birkham. I'm just here for
a visit, not to stay long-term," Scarlett explained, feeling that overstaying might be imposing.
"What's wrong with staying longer? We're all friends here. No need to be so format," Nash said dismissively "This place is big enough. Giving you a room is no trouble at all. Besides, Nina would love the company."
Scarlett shook her head gently. "I know it's no trouble, but we have our own home. It wouldn't feel right to stay here long-term. But thank you for offering."
After holding Gemma for a short while, Scarlett returned the baby to Nash. The child was clearly shy with strangers.
By the time Nina brought the food to
the table, the aroma filled the house. Scarlett ate heartily, her appetite likely boosted by pregnancy and the nostalgia of home-cooked food.

"If you like it so much, you should stay," Nina said with a smile. "I'll cook for you every day."
Scarlett laughed. "Having you, the CEO's wife, cook for me daily? I wouldn't dare! Besides, you've got your hands full with the baby."
"Then I won't cook. I'll have the helper do it," Nina teased. "Wouldn't it be nice to have you stay here and keep me company?"
Scarlett appreciated the offer. It was tempting. But she also knew better than to overstay her welcome and risk becoming an unnecessary presence in their home. She waved her hand dismissively. "Thanks, but James has already made arrangements for us. I'll be fine."
