Chapter 62: Rules of the game
Nathaniel
"When we mark mate... we'll be even stronger," Hunter told me proudly.
I was becoming a truly powerful Alpha and I could feel it in my bones, Hunter would be invincible, and the Goddess knew we needed to be as strong as possible for what was to come.
"I'm sure Penelope will want us to mark her soon, but we can't rush her. All in good time, buddy," I would tell him, and he would grunt.
Hunter's goal was to mate with her and mark her, only then would he be completely satiated. He was a pain in the ass, but I could not criticize him anymore... I myself could not get enough of Penelope. She was a constant temptation. "Besides, she told us she loved us. Yes, I know she loved you first, but now she loves both of us, "I say.
She loves us, she really said it, I had seen it in her eyes that was true.
That was an unprecedented achievement. I needed to prove myself, but I knew that we were going to be together and happy, it was as clear as day. I just had to be patient.
"Do you want me to carry you?" I would say, pressing her against me as we approached our territory.
"I think I've had enough..." she said, rubbing her ass.
I carried her for a good part of the trip, taking the opportunity to pat her wonderful ass as often as I wanted.
"My poor mate... do you want me to kiss and pamper your gorgeous bottom?" I say, and she takes a step away from me now giggling.
"Don't you dare..."
"Are you teasing me, babe? You know I love it when you challenge me... "I say, and in seconds I'm close to her, hugging her and with my hands on her ass, she lets out a gasp of surprise.
"Luckily my mate has plenty to hold on to... so she can take a little more of her mate's attention... your Alpha who is completely crazy about you," I say, and I lean her back against a tree, pressing my body against hers, massaging her ass and I hear her sigh.
"Nate...you make me shiver...," she gasps pressing her tights together, when I hear a noise, and now I put her behind me.
"Stay here..." I whisper and she takes my hand and gives me the mask we picked up and I put it on.
In a second, two masked men appear and are startled to see me, but it's too late for them as I attack them, hitting them so fast that I'm amazed myself.
One falls straight down and another is slammed into a tree. I hear a scream in the distance and footsteps approaching, and as I am about to attack again, I recognize who it is.
"Roger!"
"Alpha, Luna!" he shouts relieved and also I see our warriors.
"Thanks to the goddess that you are alright! We came to see if you needed help... luckily everything is under control," he says, looking at the enemies on the ground. We checked them out, and they seem to be the same ones that attacked us a few days ago. We continue to our territory.
"It was chaos, what a relief that you guys are okay," Michael says, hugging his daughter, and he looks much better.
I explain about the wolfsbane attack, and the gas, while he tells me what has happened here in the last few days.
"Marco's people took the bait on the trap Asher and Jeremiah had planned. The problem is, they ran into some rogues on their way to Asher's pack, and the confrontation took place in town," Michael says, and I stand there stunned. "What?" Penelope cries in distress and I hug her.
"Of course, the humans think it was a gang confrontation and I have to say that although it was chaotic, humans took it very well. It seems that the people of Belle Springs are preparing and defending themselves. I don't know how, but they're armed and there seems to have been support from other towns" Roger says.
The people must know something is going on, Jeremiah said more people are coming into the town. Something is brewing.
"When I told you that the rogues were victims of Marco... I didn't tell you that there was one captured with me, a rogues girl," Penelope says, and we are all shocked.
"But we didn't see any..." I say without understanding.
"I... I freed her as best I could, and she promised me that she would warn the townspeople to run away. Maybe she was just helping the townspeople take care of themselves. You said that rogues were trying to stop Marcos's men?," she says as I look at her in astonishment.
Roger had already talked to the mayor about the possibility of riots, but we couldn't get more involved without revealing our secret about who we really were.
And we also knew that there were rogues nearby, they seemed to be roaming the town and the woods, what would they want?
"Pumpkin...rogues have no honor, they don't believe in leaders, they're not like us," Michael says.
"I know... but I think they were just misunderstood. She insisted that I was... a Luna. She was quite surprised that I helped her... I guess they're not like we think," my mate explains sheepishly, and I hug her and kiss her forehead. "You definitely are,' I whisper to her.
Everyone seems to notice except her.
"One thing I can't get out of my head is that they played worse than dirty. We can't fight these people like we always have, they are ready to wipe us out and use the worst tricks. They can't catch us off guard" I say, showing the masks. "Wolfsbane among werewolves, vampires attacking...we have to be prepared for the unthinkable..." one of the twins says, and they all nod.
"Ironically, Penelope, being human, wasn't affected by the gas and was able to help me. We must be vigilant. With Marco and his people... we won't get a second chance," I say.
"Our Luna was very brave," some of the warriors say, and my chest swells with pride. She really is extraordinary.
"We also have to rid Belle Springs of the danger. Marco knows that we are interested in the town, and he can use it against us,' Roger says, and we start to work out a plan.
All I can think about is getting back to the house and being with her. Finally, the days will be like I dreamed, to be back in her arms after a day of work.
We would have to talk about so many things, what she wanted to do in the pack, what would make her happy. She had to learn how Moonstone worked.
"Nate... may I ask if you had any breakthroughs with our Luna? I must say that several warriors were uneasy, but when you came back to her... it was a relief. And your power has grown, I felt it," my Beta told me. The Luna is the heart of the pack.
"There have been, and I hope to mark her soon, but I don't want to rush anything."
"And about the warriors... have we had any progress on who our enemy spies might be?" I ask, and he tells me to go to my office. Michael is waiting for us there.
"We have two possibilities, one is Collin, the warrior. He was our friend when we were teenagers... but he has been a problem for a while now. He's rebellious, rude, and he's a bully," my beta says. Then he falls silent and Michael speaks. "The other option Alpha is... Roger's family. I'm sorry, but Robert and Regina... have been spreading harmful rumors," he says.
"How?"
"They haven't said anything directly, per your Alpha ban. But, they have commented on several occasions that humans are a plague and that the moon goddess will curse us for being near them," the warrior says, and Roger looks completely embarrassed.
"I can't say that what Michael mentions is a lie," Roger says dejectedly.
"I guess you already have them under surveillance..." I add.
"That's right Alpha, but... we have another problem: Alpha Ivan..."
"My father, I imagine he's making trouble," I say.
"Luna Ruth is dealing with him, but yes, the previous Alpha is not helping. He's also been in and out of the pack several times, saying he's meeting with old Alphas, but we already know that can be dangerous. And we don't know what he's up to," Michael says. Nothing good, that's for sure.
"We need to keep an eye on the town, and the surrounding area, and get more evidence. Jeremiah is collecting all the evidence, and soon we'll be able to accuse Marco and this nightmare will be over," I say and just as I'm about to leave, thinking I'm in my mate's arms, a warrior appears with a letter.
"An urgent message Alpha," he says and when I take the envelope I see that it has the Council seal on it, an invitation.
"There's a new council meeting, and it's important..." I say as I read it.
"Don't tell me, it's about..." Roger says.
"Humans, attacking them and deciding their future. Our whole future."
